Sid Meier's Civilization

As the leader of a fledgling civilization (hence the name-pretty tricky huh?) it is your responsibility to guide your citizens/followers to world domination. You have the option to crush all existing foes through your mighty army. Or you can choose to focus on creating an economy the likes of which the world as never seen. From this economy, you can then use your money to create a spaceship to explore far away planets. Thus, allowing future generations to see your greatness. However, before you can be worshiped for all eternity, you must prove yourself worthy.

What can I say other than Sid Meier is a genius! This is one of my all time favorite games. I still find myself playing this graphically simple game. That says a lot about its overall theme and game play. Part of the beauty of this game is its simple graphics. I first started playing Civilization on my 486 in college, but one of my roomates was able to play civ on a $20 286!

Although I have not seen this game in stores any time recently, I would strongly urge anyone who does not already have the game to buy this classic. However, there is CivNet, which is essentially Civilization designed to run in windows as well as support multiplayer options.

Rating

Graphics 6.9
Gameplay 8.5
Plot 9.2
Overall 8.2

Bottom Line: Overall, this is one of the best computer games EVER created. I would strongly recommend this game to anyone who has not played it before. Although it is pretty old, it is still quite enjoyable. I would also encourage anyone who has not played it recently to get it out and play a game.

Hints

The key to success in this game is simply a huge number of Settlers. Settlers allow you to do all of those important things like irrigate, mine, build roads, and railroads. All of these features are really important later on in the game when you need more resources and when you need to move your units.
