The story line is your typical apocalyptic motif. However, this game appeared a little bit before the whole end of the world/WWIII movies and games began to pop up again. Essentially, the Earth is destroyed when the world fails to destroy incoming meteors by using a special type of meteor intercepting missiles named, Gaurdian Missiles. The impact of these meteorites decimates cities, civilizations, and eventually the climate of the planet (hence making this a post apocalyptic game). After the world is destroyed, small groups of humans gather for protection in the Stallites (essentially cities built around beams of sun)and they worship the Sun God. You play a young Guardian of Fire, Arkhan, who is infected by some new type of disease when he attempts to save a Sunseer from the bad guys. It becomes your quest to not only cure yourself, but to cure the evil that has infiltrated the Stallite.
The graphics are pretty good in the game, although not the greatest. But they do tend to give a surreal atmosphere on some of the screens (which gives the game a more "realistic" touch). One of my favorite aspects about this game iss the involved plot. Although the story line is not really new, there were enough plot twists that kept me interested. In fact, I played the game occasionally when I should have been doing my homework, so it must have had some interesting aspects. You get to explore the entire city and some surrounding areas, and each step of the way you find clues to a cure and hints about the ultimate evil that plagues the planet. One of the best part about the game is that it is really difficult to tell who you can trust and who you can't. This makes you feel just a little bit paranoid around your friends if you have been playing a little too long.
As for gameplay, it was just okay. At times it was downright difficult and confusing to control your character. The worst part about the gameplay had to be during fight scenes. It could be near impossible to get your character to run in the appropriate directions. Luckily for this game, the main emphasis is on puzzle solving and the story, so the poor gameplay turned out to be less of a factor than it could have been.
