You play as Cloud, a newly recruited member of the eco-terrorist team Avalanche. Your mission is to destroy the Mako reactors in Midgar, which are slowly draining the life force from the planet. However, you quickly learn that there is going to be much more to your adventures than simple terrorism. Soon you realize that you are going to have to stop Sephiroth from destorying the planet with a gigantic meteor. But how will you stop a meteor, and will you have the time?
This is an absolutely fantastic game. Although I just finished the game, it is already one of my top favorite games of all-time. The graphics are outstanding. Especially in the movie sequences. The gameplay is also fantastic, with only slight problems on some of the battle screens when trying to select your characters or the enemy. The only other gameplay problem I found was that it was difficult to navigate on some of the different map level screens. Since it is essentially a mapped picture in the background with cloud layered on top, it was a little bit difficult to tell depth in certain areas of the screen. However, this was not that big of a problem, more of a minor nuisance.
The story line is one of the best that I have ever seen for any system. It was a complex plot, with several important plot twists that kept you interested. It was definatly not predictable. The only significant flaw with the game was the ending. I won't give anything away in case there are people reading this page who have not yet beat the game, but the ending was disappointing. It seemed like the programmers just got bored, and then stopped in the middle of the end animation. I was disappointed. If they would have done as well with the ending as they did with the rest of the game, then this game would have been the best game of all time, but instead, it is just in the top 5.
