Outpost
by
Sierra (1996)
Earth as we know it is about to be destoryed. The only hope of survival is for the human race to build space colony vessels to travel to distant stars in hope of "seeding" the universe with humans. However, there are many obstacles in the way. You must take charge of one of the colonies, and with NASA based ideas, you must create a "New Earth" for humanity to survive.
This was a pretty enjoyable game. It wasn't quite like I expected it to be. It is much more like a sim city game then civilization. You get to control a wide variety of resources, tools, research, and buildings in your quest to develop a new world. One of the draws to this game was the fact that most of the game is built on models developed by NASA about how we would explore and colonize new planets. This was kind of neat and unique because most games just start you out with cool spaceships and neat robots etc... Outpost on the other hand, uses current (or at least 1996) technology to develop your new world.
The graphics are pretty bad, but this game is not really built to revolve around graphics. As for gameplay, it is only alright. Again you use mostly a mouse and some keyboard commands to control your units and your city. Sometimes this can be a bit challenging.

Summary: If you can find this game for a couple of dollars then you might want to buy it, if not, then I would suggest spending your money elsewhere. The graphics are not very interesting to the 1999 audience, and there are better games out there anyway.
