These two warriors have played some fierce battles lately, so both men are expecting a fight to the finish, with no mercy shown by either side. Bob decided to try out a new Elemental League formation, with two ranged Trolls (one Artillerist, one Gunner) and a Medicine Troll, the new troll healer from Minions. He has 9 attack with healing and 3 damage, meaning you could just take the 3 clicks of healing instead of rolling for your number of clicks, which works very well with figures with toughness. Ryan was fielding an Elemental League army of his own, but with lots of chargers, including a Centaur Lieutenant, Unicorn Bladesman, and the mighty Thunderdoom Troll. Have a looksee...

Bob's Army:

  • Troll Artillerist** - 33
  • Troll Gunner* - 33
  • Medicine Troll* - 36
  • Centaur Champion - 59
  • Crystal Protector*** - 19
  • Shade* - 12
  • Imp*** - 8

    TOTAL = 200

Ryan's Army:

  • Thunderdoom Troll - 90
  • Centaur Lieutenant*** - 37
  • Unicorn Bladesman* - 37
  • Crystal Protector*** - 19
  • Amazon Mancatcher* - 16

    TOTAL = 199

Seeing right away that Ryan had no range in his army, Bob chose two pieces of water terrain to take full advantage of this fact. Ryan responded by placing two curtain walls to counteract the water.

Bob's army advanced up the middle of the battlefield, with the Centaur Champion covering the Troll formation. Bob knew that in order to damage those Trolls, the enemy figures would have to base them, and he was situated so that anything that did base those trolls would get charged. Despite the lack of range, Ryan's figures had the speed over Bob's lumbering trolls. Ryan used this to his benefit, and advanced towards Bob on one side of the board, using the blocking terrain he had placed to shield him from ranged fire. While Ryan's army came around the left side of the field, Bob pulled his formation and Champion back to the right, so that they would have a clearer shot at the advancing opponents.

Ryan kept advancing towards Bob, using his Unicorn to block lines of fire to the rest of his army. His Bladesman had pushed once by this point in the game. Bob fired at the Unicorn using one of his Trolls, and at the Mancatcher using the other. On his next turn, Bob pushed both the Artillerist and the Gunner to deal 6 clicks of damage to the Bladesman, killing it. In the meantime, Ryan was bringing his Crystal Protector closer to the battle when it was based by Bob's imp. The imp was charged by the Thunderdoom Troll, taking it out with one hit.

Ryan decided to engage Bob's Troll Gunner with his Thunderdoom Troll, whose dial was on his second slot after pushing to kill the imp. The Gunner hit the Thunderdoom for 3 clicks, reduced to two. The unique's toughness was knocked out by this hit. Ryan then pushed it to deliver 4 clicks of damage to the Gunner (reduced by toughness.) After a couple more turns, the Thunderdoom had taken three more damage courtesy of the Artillerist, Bob had based it with his Centaur, planning to push to make the death blow on his next turn. Also, because Bob's Troll Gunner had pushed and was past his Battle Fury slots, Ryan moved in to capture it with his healed Mancatcher.

Inevitably, the Thunderdoom was killed and the Gunner captured. All that remained for Ryan was his Centaur Lieutenant***, and Crystal Protector***, who had pushed out of Limited Invisibility. She was soon shot out of the sky by the Artie. Bob made a run for his own Protector with his severely weakened Centaur Champ, but the relatively healthy Lieutenant was speedy enough to base both of those figures. In the meantime, the Troll Medic was making a desperate attempt to cut off the Mancatcher at the pass, in an attempt to free the Gunner. The Mancatcher broke away, though, and was gone towards Ryan's starting area. Ryan's Centaur Lt. gave Bob a fantastic run for his money, killing both the Champion and the Protector due to Bob's inability to roll decent break-aways. The Lieutenant also benefitted from its battle armor, because the Troll Artillerist was unable to damage it at first as well.

Finally, though, the Artie got through to the lieutenant, and after it was dead, Ryan decided to call it a game. His Mancatcher was a significant ways down the field, but because it was a non-timed game, he conceded. Looking back, the two armies were quite similar, with Trolls and Centaurs and a Crystal Protector on both sides. The ranged Trolls trumped the 5" charging troll though.

WINNER: Bob
