Sega of America Announce Official Details

Everyone rejoice!!! Finally Sega Of America revealed OFFICIAL details concerning the DC.

Here are the details YOU want to know(drumroll please!). The machine will cost $199, the release date WILL be 9/9/99, and there will be 10-12 games available at launch. Sonic and Virtua Fighter 3tb are just two of the games that are up for improvements. No Surprises here.

Sega's President, Irimajiri was in America to greet retailers at a meeting, showing Sega's worldwide commitment to getting the Dreamcast's launch right, worldwide. The pricepoint is the first time a next-generation console has gone on sale at under $200, and Stolar claims that it will reach the widest possible audience, casual and hardcore gamers alike.

If you read this months EGM, you would've noticed the DC ad on the back, which Sega claims to be "the tip of the iceberg.". Sega is spending $100 million on the massive publicity blitz for Dreamcast. "When you walk into a store this Fall, you'll think it's owned by Sega", Stolar emphasized. "Sega will be everywhere," he continued. With the price and the marketing, he claims Sega WILL take back the market from Sony and Nintendo.

The games at launch will include VF3tb, Sonic, The House of the Dead 2, Rally 2, Superspeed Racing, along with the NFL and NBA sports titles. Before Christmas, Powerstone, Ready 2 Rumble and Soul Calibur will all have been released. There will be thirty titles in stores by Christmas, twenty of which will be third-party products.

On the subject of the Internet strategy, Stolar wasn't prepared to answer questions as negotiations between two major companies are not yet complete, however the modem will be 56k, and the big Internet-related announcements will take place at E3.   We'll have more info as it becomes available.
