Uhhh!! Whats the Bottom Line?
Good question! So what does this mean to the gamer?  A couple fo things:

First, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the PSX2 has more juice than the DC.  To be honest, it just zoomed past the DC, but not without cost.  The PSX2 has a DVD Rom, along with other hi-tech technology in it.   Hi-tech technology spells one thing: COST.  Rumors report that the cost will be around $800, but were later said to be around $400, so the price is still unknown.   But folks, it will be high.

What Sony intends to push about the next system is the consoles ability to make 3D objects look and feel more real, with a technique called "Emotion Synthesis." With the system's power, developers can employ realistic motion in characters' hair and clothing in real-time, as well as how objects react to real-world elements such as gravity, friction, mass – as well as how they react against surfaces such as water, wood, metal, and gas.  Though it depends on the talents of the developers, it does open up new possibilities for games.  The DVD-rom will enable movies to be played on the PSX2 and can also provide up to 4.7 GB for data.

For DC on the other hand, a DVD-player is being developed that can be directly placed inside the system and transforn the GD-ROM as a DVD player.  Also, since the DC runs on the Windows CE operating system, it should be easier to upgrade the parts of the DC, theoretically.

Finally, the bottom line is cost.  The DC is set to be around $199, with rumors of $189, at the time of the release (maybe they'll push it down after they heard about the PSX2), and is set to be releaed in the US in September of this year.  The PSX2, however, is priced around $400 at the least, and is set to be released in the US during fall 2000.   By this time the DC should be around $129 or lower, so the DC can take advantage of the price advantage and grab a nice market share in the US, but will it be enough to stop the Onslaught of the PSX2.  We think it has a slight chance, but you tell us what you think on our quizzlet on the main page. Also, Sega can use the PSX2 towards its advantage.  Reports indicate that the PSX2 needs large amounts of expensive development to take advantage of the system, and also have hinted that the software can be made easier on the DC than the PSX2.  Even Square's President said that " No more than five software companies can develop games that take full advantage of the PlayStation 2's capabilities," adding that it may lead to a divide between developers that have that power, and those that don't.  Sega needs a flawless performance to truly dethrone Sony and to survive on its own, and it needs to take advantage of every opportunity it can get, no matter how small it is.  We'll keep this section updated as we know more about the PSX2 and DC's strategy.
