Let me start off by saying that I played the Sega CD version of Lunar: SSS, very little
bit when it was released in 92', so I don't know much about the story line. I
recently got my hands on the Lunar demo that WD finally gave to all the people who
pre-purchased the game, and I was immediately drawn into it.
Let me just get a brief run-down on the game itself. You play an
adventurous young lad named Alex, whose dream is to become an adventurer just like his
hero Dragonmaster Dyne. Living in the beautiful planet of Moon, with a peaceful view
of the Earth, he dreams his dreams everyday. However, with the help of his childhood
sweetheart Luna, Alex finally gets a chance to go on his own adventure. With the aid
of his pet dragon Nall, his friend Ramus, and many others along the way, he has the
biggest adventure ever.
Ok, now that thats done. The graphics resemble the 16-bit days
with sprites making up the characters. They are cleaned up for the Playstaion
version. All the major points of the story are told through Anime cut-scenes, which
are real eye-pleasing, and also with the help of real speech from the various characters
you encounter. The battles are old traditional style, and magic plays a very
important role in them. WD changed the some towns, some plots in the story, and the
dungeons so that old veterans of the game don't breeze though it. Possible the best
part of the game is its story. As the demo (which is only 2hrs as opposed to the 5
hrs promised by WD) porgressed, you could easily see the growing relationship between Luna
and Alex, and also the witty conversatons with other characters. With emphasis on
story rather than on eye-pleasing graphics, WD sets to show that gamers that a Good RPG
doesn't need graphics to be remembered by fans. You can expect a mob of people at
your local videogame store when the game is released on the 11 of this month. So,
keep a look out for this game, its hot.
