Capcom shows us that the Saturn is still the best 2D fighting machine around in
its near-arcade perfect masterpiece.
If you are a fighting gamer, then chances are you have played Capcom's Vs games.
But, if you never played them, here is the deal. You can pick 2 characters from
either sides and basically fight your way up to the games' respective boses. MSH vs
SF is the second game in the vs series and is the arcade to console conversion to come in
a long time, and the 4 mg ram cart really unleashes the game.
Graphics
The game is excellent when it comes to graphics. The sprites are extremely well
animated and the backgrounds move, adding a very nice touch to the game. The
graphics are almost arcade perfect thanks to the 4 MB ram cart. In fact, you would
have to look very closely to distinguish between the graphics.
Gameplay
If you have ever played this game in the arcade, you know that it is fun to play, both
agains the computer and against live opponents. And as usual in the home version,
you can customize your own settings (such as time off, etc.), which makes it even more
fun. The japanese version adds a survival mode as usual and the ability to select
the secret characters in the arcade with a key stroke and add Mech-Gouki (total overkill
if you fight as him) as a playable character. But, I wish that they could have added
more modes. If you are worried that the game will be in Japanese, then fear no more
my friend, because all the menus are in english along with character names. The only
Japanese text is the endings, which kinda gets annoying after a while because you can't
understand it, but its a fighting game, and the emphasis is on the action.
Sound
The game has excellent sound effects and the music matches the stage you are fighting on.
All, the characters sound effects are there including Wolverine's famous quote
"rookie."
Replay Value
This game is just simple fun, and you'll be playing it until you can master all the
air-combos with all your favorite characters. If you have someone to play with
though, its a great way to settle a grudge match. Just tell the person you're
arguing with "yo man, you wanna take this to the Saturn? I'll whoop your a$$ with
Spider-man."
This is truly a great game to get. However, it is an import meaning that you will
have to get something like a Pro-Action Replay pack and get the game from a stor that
sells imports, and those can be hard to find, especially if you don't live near the
cities. Still, if you can manage to get $80 together, then you can get the great
Pro-action Replay and the game. If not, then you can always get the decent
Playstation version or just play it at an arcade.
