History Time Line
 
1976 Age 4 1/2 he started driving 100cc Go karts.
 
1977 He won the Western States Championship in his class and the fast time award. At the age of six he won 35 main events and set the fast time.
 
1979 Age 8 when he moved into the national circuit. Here he won his first Grand National Championship followed by 52 event wins, eight track records.
 
1980 Jeff had an amazing 50 fast times in 50 races and his wins numbered 46.
 
1981-82 Jeff won three California State Monza Championships and another Grand National Championship. Sprint Cars Florida Speedweeks in, 1986, Jeff made the feature four out of five times World of Outlaws in 1987
 
1988 Was the last year Jeff would run in the World of Outlaws. He finished the season at Eldora by participating in one of sprint car's biggest racing events, the Kings Royal.
 
Busch Days
 
1990 Jeff ran 3 races in Grand National series for Hugh Connery in the Outback Steak House car.
 
1991 Jeff's 1st full year in the Bush Grand National series where he placed 11th in points.
 
1992 He set a Busch Grand National series record with 11 poles and was 4th in points
 
1999 Returned to the Bush circuit for 5 races.
 
2000 Retired from Bush racing by winning the Hotwheels.com 300 at Homestead.
 
Winston Cup
 
1992 Jeff's debut into Winston Cup where he ran the last race of the year at Atlanta. Jeff qualified 21st. Jeff's first race was also Richard Petty's last!
 
1993 Jeff won the Gatorade 125 qualifying race at Daytona, the first rookie to accomplish this in 30 years and became the first rookie driver to lead the first lap of the Daytona 500.
1993 Jeff and Brooke met in Victory lane after the Gatorade 125.
1993 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year beating out Bobby Labonte and came in 14th in the W/C points.
 
1994 Won his first race in 1994. (Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte)
1994 He won the Inaugural Brickyard 400.
 
1995 Jeff won the Winston Select all-star race and became the first driver to win all three segments.
1995 NASCAR WINSTON CUP CHAMPION Winning 7 races and at age 24 Jeff was 2nd youngest driver to do so. Bill Rexford was 23 when he won in 1950.
 
1996 Won 10 races and finished second in points 37 points behind Hendrick teammate Terry Labonte.
1996 True Value Man of the Year for his charity involvement.
 
1997 At age 25, Jeff became the youngest driver to win the Daytona 500 (Richard Petty previously held the record at age 26) with teammates Terry Labonte and Ricky Craven finishing second and third, all drivers for Hendrick Motorsports.
1997 Jeff won the inaugural California 500 at the California Speedway.
1997 Driver of the Year award.
1997 He was the 2nd person to win the Winston Million at Darlington.
1997 NASCAR WINSTON CUP CHAMPION #2 - Jeff had 10 wins, 22 top 5 finishes and 23 top 10's
 
1998 Jeff was awarded Future Legend Award at NASCAR's Night in Hollywood.
1998 First two time winner of the Brickyard 400 and recorded the largest payday in racing history by winning $1.6 million at the Brickyard 400 his 1st "No Bull Million' from Winston.
1998 Jeff was the first person ever to win the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway and by winning the race won his 2nd "No Bull Million' from Winston.
1998 Jeff was awarded Future Legend Award at NASCAR's Night in Hollywood.
1998 Jeff won the Driver of the Year Espy Award (for 1997)

1998 Late May 1998- The Business Journal of Charlotte reports that,"Gordon and Evernham will move into race team ownership next year when they field a Pepsi-sponsored Busch series team. The Busch team will race under a newly created company, Gordon-Evernham Motorsports.
1998 Jeff won 4 races in a row.
1998 Jeff Gordon is Nominated for True Value Man of the Year Award.
1998 Jeff wins his 3rd Winston Cup Title in 4 years.
1998 Jeff Won 13 races in one season, tying a record set in 1975 by Richard Petty.

1999 NASCAR WINSTON CUP CHAMPION #3
 
1999 Jeff Won the Daytona 500.
1999 Jeff raced in the Bush Grand National since 1992, and finished 2nd.
1999 Jeff scored 18 top-10 qualifying efforts, including seven Bud Poles, this season.
1999 Jeff earned 160 lap leader/bonus points.
1999 Jeff led at least one lap in 25 races this season.
1999 Jeff posted seven victories in 1999.
