Drowning

The water swirls.
Her mind whirls.
And he is not there.

She gulps in chlorine
and grief she’s never seen.
And he is not there.

She’s sinking.
Her eyes are blinking.
But he is not there.

Life is slowing.
Strength is going.
But he is not there.

Life is growing.
but still knowing
that he is not there.
