Growing up in Apple Valley, CA - a dreary chunk of desert between Los Angeles and Las Vegas - Tim James scoped escape early. "Success stories where I come from are pretty rare," says Tim. So, at 16, he joined a boy band. "I didn't care that the music was bad - it was a way out." Soon enough, though, the lack of sonic integrity began to bug.
Tim filed it
under "learning experience" and split to create his own sound. He penned
Hoku's "Another Dumb Blonde," and now the brillant 23-year old is laying
his self-titled debut on the listening public. Tim's tunage - from
his soaring first single "I'll Be Your Secret" to the upstanding "Better
Man" - is pure pop, no apologies. But it's also quite clever - a far cry
from standard boy band fare. Not only did Tim write everything on his disc,
but he also played at least one instument per track.
It doesn't take
a genius to figure out he'd only date a girl with brains. "There are times
when you think, from far away, Oh this person is intriguing, and mysterious
and beautiful. But you won't really be sure until you know the person.
You can judge a book by it's cover, but then hou have to open it up." Talk
about a wise guy.
