One Little Rose
I would rather have one little rose
from the garden of a friend
than to have the choicest flowers
when my say on earth must end
I would rather have one pleasant word
in kindness said to me than flattery when
my heart is still and my life has
ceased to be I would rather have
a loving smile from friends I
know are true than tears shed
round my casket when this world
I've bid adieu Bring me all your
flowers today whether pink, or
white, or red I'd rather have
one blossom now than a basketful
when I'm dead
Listen
to the Mustn'ts
Listen to the MUSTN'TS, son,
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me--
Anything can happen, son,
ANYTHING can be.
Sitting still and wishing
Made no person great;
The good Lord sends the fishing,
but you must dig the bait.
You don't have to move that mountain
Just help me Lord to climb it
You don't have to move that stumbling block
Just show me the way around it
-Keith Whitley
A song is not a song until it is sung.
A bell is not a bell until it is rung.
Love was not put here to stay.
For it isn't really love, until you give it away.
If
by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look to good, or talk to wise:
If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up again with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings;
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none to much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And which is more-you'll be a Man, my son!

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right
away that they were meant to be there, to serve some
sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you
figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be
possibly your roommate, neighbor, professor,
long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger,
but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that
very moment they will affect your life in some profound
way. And sometimes things happen to you that may seem
horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but
in reflection you find that without overcoming those
obstacles you would have never realized your potential,
strength, willpower, or heart. Everything happens for
a reason.
Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck.
Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness,
and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of
your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they
maybe, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight,
flat road to nowhere.
It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly
pointless. The people you meet who affect your life,
and the success and downfalls you experience, help to
create who you are and who you become.
Even the bad experiences can be learned from.
In fact, they are probably the most poignant and
important ones.
If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your
heart forgive them, for they have helped you learn
about trust and the importance of being cautious to
when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love
them back unconditionally, not only because they love
you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to
love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.
Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and
take from those moments everything that you possibly
can for you may never be able to experience
it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to
before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in
love, break free, and set your sights high.
Hold your head up because you have every right to.
Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe
in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself, it
will be hard for others to believe in you. You can
make of your life anything you wish.
Create your own life and then go out and live it with
absolutely no regrets. Most importantly, if you love
someone tell them, for you never know what tomorrow may
have in store. And learn a lesson in life each day you live.
The
Man In The Glass
by Rudyard Kipling
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
Some people may think you a straight shooting chum
And call you a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest.
For he's with you clear up to the end.
And you've passed your dangerous difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.
