Youth Ashamed of Janitor Father

Fifteen year old Ft. Collins High School sophomore, Jake Crier, is terrified that friends and classmates will discover that his father is George Crier, senior janitor at the school. "So far it's cool," says Crier. "I dropped my fourth period A.P. Chemistry class, because it went on during the part of the day when Dad cleaned the bathrooms in the Science Hall, so I'm covered there. I should be able to avoid him for the rest of the semester." |
"Come on, what would you think if you found out the guy who cleaned Danny Anderson's puke out of the planter in the lunch room three months ago was a kid you know's dad?"
Crier has gone as far as restructuring his after-school schedule to hide his father's occupation.
"I got to thinking, a lot of rich guys play lacrosse, so I went out for the team. You wouldn't expect a guy on the lacrosse team's dad was someone who worked up to his elbows in shit everyday," the youth reasoned.
Overall, Crier is optomistic about his situation.
"It's going to take a lot of work, but I can pull it off for a couple more years. So far I've only really been in danger one time. I was broke and had to borrow $3 off Dad for lunch, right in the hallway. A couple band girls saw me, but they never said anything about it. If they ever do, I've already got a story worked out about the cash being for a bet on a football game. I'll say I know him because he was a guy who my family used to hire to clean our house a few years ago, before he became a janitor."
