Program for children 4 and 5 years of age
This program has been developed to ensure a smooth transition for children entering kindergarten in the following year. For this reason, liaison with the kindergarten teachers of the St-Bruno school will continue.
The program consists of periods of free play, discussion time, pre-writing, pre-reading and math activities, story telling, show and tell, music, physical education, and relaxation time. Different themes will be explored in various ways throughout the year.
Studies in Europe have shown that nursery school children entering school have better concentration and richer play. They also show more independence and approach teachers as resources for learning rather than for aid.
There is concern in many countries,
including our own, that our children are coming out of our schools without
the necessary literacy foundations. Research shows that these foundations
should start at the pre-school level. They have been fully integrated
into our curriculum.
