The "Lord of the Rings" Trivia You Never Asked For
Warning. This page contains spoilers for the books "the Two Towers" and "the Return of the King", as well
as some from the appendix. If you've only read the first book or seen the first film, and don't want to know what happens, be
warned! A spoiler for RotK is in the "Book Referrals in the Movie" part now as well!
Abbreviations:
LotR = the Lord of the Rings
FotR = the Fellowship of the Ring
TTT = the Two Towers
RotK = the Return of the King
Note to those who want to comment on the trivia: If you believe you have found an error in the trivia section, please send me an e-mail at tingeling@weathertop.zzn.com instead of posting in my guestbook. The reason why I want you to do this is that people have posted not entirely nice comments in my guestbook on errors in my trivia section that aren't actually errors. If you send me an e-mail, I will correct any trivia which I've gotten wrong. And if it's not an actual error then I can explain it to you. I like that better than people posting stuff in my guestbook telling me to get my facts straight when in fact they're the ones who are wrong. So please, if you find an error, send me an e-mail and if it's an actual error I will correct it asap. Thanks.
* Members of the Fellowship and what they represent: Frodo (ringbearer), Samwise (called Sam, represents the Shire), Gandalf (represents maias, I should assume), Aragorn (represents man), Boromir (represents Gondor), Legolas (represents Elves), Gimli (represents Dwarfs), Meriadoc and Peregrin (called Merry and Pippin, represent friendship).
* One third of the fellowship has ridden on a horse with Gandalf (Gimli, Merry, Pippin).
* Frodo is in his 50ies when the hobbits leave Rivendell. Merry is 36, Sam 38 and little Pippin is just 28. Assumingly their ages are different in the movie. (Thanks Michelle for correcting some ages =))
* Aragorn is over 80 years old. Therefore he is older than King Théoden of Mark.
* Although Legolas is at least 500 years old, there are no records of him taking part in the Battle of Five Armies that took place in "the Hobbit", 80 years before the Fellowship formed.
* Éomer and Éowyn's father was named Éomund. Their mother was named Théodwyn, and was the sister of Théoden.
* Faramir and Sam are the same age.
* In some versions of the hobbit family trees, Merry is not married. And his children are never mentioned, even though the appendix states that he had at least one son.
* Frodo is Merry's father's cousin and Pippin's mother's second cousin.
* Pippin and Merry are cousins. Merry's mother Esmeralda is the sister of Pippin's father Paladin II. Therefor they are related to each other from one side and both are related to Frodo on the other side.
* Aragorn is actually Aragorn II.
* Éomer renamed Merry Holdwine.
* Merry’s actual name was not Meriadoc Brandybuck, it was Kalimac Brandagamba.
His friends called him Kali, which in English translated to Merry. And so he got his English name Meriadoc. Brandagamba translates into Brandybuck.
* Pippin's full name Peregrin means "traveller in strange countries".
* Frodo's name means "wise by experience".
* Gimli's name means "paradise". (thanks Jasmine44)
* Legolas' name means "green leaf". But that didn't surprise anyone...
* Boromir's name means "faithful jewel".
* Sam's full name Samwise means "halfwise" or "stupid".
* Arwen's name means "noble maiden". The nickname Undómiel means "eveningstar". Is Aphrodite aware that her name has
been stolen? (thanks John for correcting my spelling. I spelled Aphrodite’s name the Swedish way by mistake =))
* Elrond's name means "elf of the cave".
* Glorofindel's name means "golden haired elf".
* Celeborn's name means "(tall) silver tree".
* Galadriel's name means "radient garland".
* Éowyn's name means "joyful horse".
* Faramir's name means "sufficient jewel".
* Gil-Galad's name means "Star-Radience". (thanks Tsuki)
* Pippin named his son after Faramir.
* Faramir Took married Sam's daughter Goldilocks (I leave it up to you to figure out what her name means...).
* Sam's wife was named Rose. Pippin's wife came from Long Cleeve and was named Diamond. Merry married Fatty Bolger's sister Estella.
* In Charles Dickens’ book “Great Expectations” the main character is named Pip and the woman he loves is named Estella. I found that funny!
* Legolas was the only Elf present at the battle of Helm's. Haldir and company weren’t present in the book.
* Gimli was the only Dwarf present at the battle of Helm's.
* Éowyn was the only woman who took part in the battles of the War of the Ring.
* The first language the trilogy was translated into was Swedish. The translation is world famous for its errors. They’re currently working on a new translation.
* The Swedish translator Åke Ohlmarks added 15000 adjectives to the story. (thanks Vandalay)
* One of the biggest errors is Legolas having children in the Swedish version.
* Another is that Aragorn receives messages from his dead father, instead of from Elrond as he did in the original.
* Another one is that the hobbits have drinking problems in the Swedish translation.
* One error is that Gandalf tells Frodo to west to Buckland, which he also says is in the east. Long trip for poor Frodo just
to get to Buckland...
* Elrond's wife is killed by the orcs in this translation, instead of having been saved by Elladan and Elrohir.
* But perhaps the biggest change is the battle of the Pellenor Field's. Do you remember when Éowyn beheaded the Witch
King of Angmar? Well you remember wrong. At least according to the Swedish translation, in which Merry is the one to deliver
the final strike.
* Shadowfax is grey, whatever the TTT film tells you. Gandalf was called the White Rider because of his outfit, not because of his horse's colour.
* Elladan and Elrohir are twins. Elladan is the older one.
* Merry fell under the black shadow twice. Once in Bree and once after having assisted Éowyn in killing the Witch King of
Angmar.
* The two Argonaths are Isildur and Anárion.
* Merry refers to his father as the Master of the Hall.
* One third of the Fellowship has been thought to be dead. (Gandalf, Frodo, Pippin)
* Pippin has the smallest feet of the hobbits.
* Neither Merry nor Pippin told their family they were leaving the Shire. Imagine the surprise when both the hier to the Thain and the hier to the Master of the Hall were gone.
* In some versions of the family trees, two of Sam's children were twins.
* Speaking of Sam and his children, he had 13 of them.
* In some versions of the books, Arwen is spelled with a V instead of a W, Arven.
* Odd things that happen to the hobbits; they get eaten by trees (Merry, Pippin), they get swallowed by barrows (all), they get put under the black shadow by ringwraiths (Merry, twice!), they get stabbed by morgul blades (Frodo), they get attacked by giant spiderlike creatures (Frodo), they get taken captive by orcs (Frodo, Merry, Pippin), they talk with trees (Merry, Pippin), they bond with Gollum (Frodo), they lose fingers (Frodo), they get mistaken for Elven warriors (Sam), they get mistaken for a log (Merry), they get mistaken for princes (Pippin, Merry, Frodo), they get mistaken for Black Riders (Merry). Just to mention a few...
* Frodo became an orphan at the age of 12.
* Aragorn lost his father at the age of 2.
* Although Elves were the firstborn, the Dwarves were created before the Elves.
* The Council of Wizard consists of five wizards. Saruman the White, Radagast the Brown, Gandalf the Grey and the two blue wizards Alatar and Pallando.
* RotK begins before TTT ends, confusing as it may sound. Frodo and Sam's encounter with Shelob takes place about the same time as the battle of the Pelennor fields.
* Frodo named his horse after Strider. Now there's something to feel honoured about...
* "The Hobbit" is not a prequel to LotR. LotR is a sequel, which JRR Tolkien was asked to write after "the Hobbit" became such a success. Tolkien has said in interviews that he had no idea when he wrote "the Hobbit" that it was the One Ring that Bilbo had found.
* JRR stands for John Ronald Reuel.
* The Witch King of Angmar could not be killed by any man. Éowyn was a woman, not a man, and thus she could kill him. And Merry was a hobbit, and although he was male he didn't count as a man, thus he was able to kill the Witch King as well.
* While growing up in Rivendell, Aragorn was called Estel by the Elves, as Elrond had decided. Estel is Elvish for "hope".
* Pippin was mistaken for a prince in Minas Tirith because he spoke to Denethor and everyone else as if he knew them, and not as if they were in higher rank than him. For a Hobbit that was only natural, but not for the Humans who believed he must have a very high status among his people.
* Merry became Master of the Hall, Pippin became Thain, Sam became Mayor of the Shire and Frodo briefly held the title Mayor of the Shire as well.
* Sam's oldest son was named after Frodo. His second son was named after Merry and his third after Pippin. He also had a son named Bilbo.
* Five members of the Fellowship ended up sailing to the West. (Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Gimli, Legolas)
* Frodo fails his quest.
* Two thirds of the fellowship were no "ordinary joes", but people of higher status. Aragorn (as Isildur's heir and heir to the throne of Gondor and Anor), Boromir (as heir to the Steward of Gondor), Legolas (as the son of Mirkwood's king, although it's never mentioned if he's the crowned prince or if he has older brothers), Merry (as heir to the Master of Buckland), Pippin (as heir to the Thain) and Frodo (as heir to the richest hobbit in Hobbiton).
* Arguing issue 1: Balrogs - wings or not?
* Arguing issue 2: Legolas - blond, brunette, redhead?
* Arguing issue 3: Buckland - in the Shire or outside the Shire?
* Arguing issue 4: Who came first? Elves are said to be the firstborn, yet Dwarfs were created before Elves (though they slept until the Elves had arrived in Middle-Earth), Tom Bombadill claims to have been in Middle-Earth longer than anyone or anything else, and so do the Ents...
* Arguing issue 5: Arwen - did she regret her decision to forsake immortal life or not?
* Arguing issue 6: Who really killed the Witch King? Éowyn was the one to behead him, but it was Merry's strike that lifted the spell that protected him.
* Merry and Pippin lived together at the house Merry got Frodo in Crickhollow after the War of the Ring.
* Pippin kept wearing his black-and-silver clothes he got in Minas Tirith after his return to the Shire.
* Gandalf translated the writing on the doors of Durin into "Speak friend and enter". The correct translation would have been "Say friend and enter".
* Éomer's children and Éowyn's were not only cousins, they were also second cousins.
* Boromir was actually Boromir II, son of Denethor II. Boromir I was the son of Denethor I. Lack of imagination perhaps?
* There was a famous race horse a few years back named Legolas.
* Pippin's last name Took is believed to come either from the Norse god Tor or from the Swedish word tok, which means "crazy person".
* Frodo, Sam, Bilbo and Gimli were the only mortals who got to travel to the West. (thanks Steven for pointing out that I forgot Bilbo *blushes*)
* Gandalf's Elvish name Mithrandir means "grey pilgrim".
* As mentioned above, Merry's family tree doesn't mention him and Estella having children even though the appendix does. According to Tolkien's publishers, there wasn't room for any children in the end of the family tree, and Tolkien didn't have time to make changes to shorten Merry's line of ancestors. But according to Tolkien, Merry did father children.
* When Tolkien’s wife died he had the name Luthien put on her tombstone. After his death the name Beren was put on his.
Movie Trivia
The Fellowship of the Ring
* Merry eats apples three times in the movie. When he and Pippin are stealing fireworks, when the hobbits reunite in Rivendell and when Boromir teaches Merry and
Pippin fencing.
* Frodo falls down every ten minutes in the film, averagely.
* Remember when the Elves reforge Aragorn's broken sword? That's because they forgot this tiny little highly important detail in the movie...
* Nobody in the movie explains how come the nazgûl are no longer a threat after the incident at the ford.
* Merry and Pippin leave the Shire without backpacks. Yet they've each got one after Bree.
* Merry and Pippin also leave the Shire without any extra sets of clothes. That means they wear the same clothes for five to six months. Gross!
* Even though they haven't had a hair-cut in about six months, neither fellowship members' hair has grown.
* The first person cast for the trilogy was Christopher Lee (Saruman).
* At Bilbo's party Bilbo welcomes Fatty Bolger. Fatty is however an older man with grey hair, and not a hobbit at about the same age as Merry. Which leads me to believe we won't get to see Merry marrying Fatty's sister in the movies...
* Nasty rumours say Merry will die in the third film after his Witch King encounter. Some nicer versions of the rumour say he'll wake up when the Ring is destroyed. We're hoping these are just rumours!
* Sam, Merry and Pippin come barging into the room where Strider and Frodo are, prepared to fight with Strider if necessary. Pippin has armed himself with a chair, out of all things!
* Merry doesn't seem the least bit upset about missing second breakfast. Wasn't he hungry too?
* Pippin and Merry eavesdrop at the council of Elrond. But even though he seems to have been present the entire time, Pippin doesn't know where they are going.
* Frodo stands by a railing in Rivendell which only reaches him to the waist. This is most likely Bilbo's room, thus hobbit sized.
* When the first trailer for the movie was released, people all over the world were thrilled over the fact that Gimli and the hobbits actually looked smaller than the others. Did people really have that little faith in Peter Jackson?
* Everyone's familiar with the tattoos that the actors in the fellowship got, which were an Elvish 9 (designed by Alan Lee). Orlando Bloom (Legolas) got his on the forearm since "I'm an archer", Dominic Monaghan (Merry) also go his on the arm and Elijah Wood (Frodo) got his on his stomach. Were the others got theirs this webmistress does not know. Elijah Wood commented on his; "It hurt like a motherfucker". Watch your mouth, pal...
* Actually, John Rhys-Davies didn’t get a tattoo! His size-double did, however…
* Orlando Bloom's first choice was not Legolas. He auditioned for another part originally. Some say it was the part of Frodo, some say it was the part of Faramir.
* Orlando Bloom (Legolas) broke his back as a teenager.
* Speaking of Orlando Bloom (Legolas), he has the largest amount of fan sites on the Web, out of the actors in the fellowship. Billy Boyd (Pippin) is second.
* Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) loved her Elf ears so much, she had them bronzed and they're now on her mantelpiece...
* Nasty rumours claim that the reason why Aragorn says Legolas' Elvish lines in Lórien is because Orlando Bloom (Legolas) had too much trouble learning the language...
* In the live action movie, Merry is played by Dominic Monaghan. In the animated Bakshi version, Pippin's voice was provided by a guy named Dominic (I can't remember his last name).
* Those who have seen what there is to see so far of TTT and RotK say that FotR is without a doubt the weakest part of the movie trilogy. Sounds very promising...
* Sean Astin's (Sam) daughter Alexandra plays Sam's firstborn Eleanor in the trilogy.
* The screams of the nazgûl were provided by Fran Walsh, who is by the way Peter Jackson’s life partner.
* A cut line from the movie: after Elrond says "You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring", Merry originally said to Pippin "Did you hear that? We're part of a fellowship!"
* Number of times Merry says Pippin's name in an annoyed tone: 3. (when Pippin's confused over where the apple that hit him came from, at the council, when Pippin loses grip and slides down on Merry when climbing stairs)
* Number of times Merry orders Pippin around: 3. (when lighting fireworks, when running from farmer Maggot, when running from orcs)
* Sam attacks the orcs with his frying pan. Pippin uses rocks to hurt the cave troll.
* Crop stolen from farmer Maggot by Merry and Pippin: carrots, cabbages, potatoes and mushrooms.
* Some people claim that Merry gives the finger to the orcs when he waves at them to get their attention. If he does, it's only for a split second...
* Aragorn gives Pippin a puzzled look when Pippin talks about second breakfast, and Merry states that he probably doesn't know about it. Has Aragorn learned nothing while staying among Hobbits in Bree?
* Orlando Bloom found out he'd gotten the part as Legolas two days before his graduation from theatre school.
* Dominic Monaghan (Merry) said in an interview that they let him and Billy Boyd (Pippin) train together and work together every day for the first part of the filming, and then separated them. Monaghan commented in the interview that it was probably meant to make them feel like Merry and Pippin when they are separated, but the actors found it kinda' cruel.
* Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) is half American, half Danish and speaks both English and Danish fluently. He is also fluent in Spanish.
* The actors who played Hobbits all loved their Hobbit feet. For a day or two. Elijah Wood (Frodo) has said that his feet were so sweaty the glue came off and had to be replaced several times a day, Sean Astin (Sam) stepped on something sharp which went directly through his Hobbit foot and cut his real one and Billy Boyd (Pippin) lost a Hobbit foot while running in the woods in one take. Plus the glue never completely came off, so they were constantly picking glue off their feet.
* Number of days Sean Astin (Sam) had to wear his Hobbit feet without them being filmed: 50.
* The guy who applied Sean Astin's (Sam) feet every day was named Sean Foot. Meant to be?
* The actors who played Hobbits and Orlando Bloom (Legolas) spent their free time going surfing, snowboarding and so on. Once they brought Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) when they went surfing, which resulted in Mortensen having to be filmed from only one side for a few days, since he had a huge bruise on the other side of his face.
* How old Legolas is, is never stated in the books. The movie makers decided that in the live action movie version he would be 2931 years old.
* With the exception of Merry getting firewood at Amon Hen, the greatest physical distance Merry and Pippin have to each other in the film is Pippin getting ale in a pint in Bree. Those guys sure don't like to be apart...
* Neither Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) nor Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) had read the books
when they got their parts.
* John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) was the tallest actor in the Fellowship. He's commented that he found it very interesting to play a Dwarf, since he for the first time had to look upward all
the time. And in response to the people questioning how he could play a Dwarf, he's said the following; "I think you'll find me small enough". Kinda' says it all, huh?
* It has been said that the chapter "the Scouring of the Shire" will not feature in the third
film. Yet some of the actors have mentioned that it has been filmed, so perhaps it will be on
a special edition.
* Sir Ian Holm (Bilbo) played Frodo in the BBC radio series about 20 years ago.
* Christopher Lee (Saruman) reads "the Hobbit" and "the Lord of the Rings" once a year. He is also the only member of the cast and crew who’s met JRR Tolkien in person.
* Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) has described Gandalf as a mix between the wizards in old
fairy tales, the wizard Merlin and Prospero in Shakespeare's "the Storm".
* John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) turned out to be allergic to the make-up he had to wear every day.
* Hugo Weaving (Elrond) has said that once he'd gotten the part of Elrond he started thinking
the job through and came to the conclusion that it was an impossible task. Good thing he
changed his mind.
* Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) preferred to walk around in his character's clothes even after work. He even cleaned and looked after the costume himself.
* The first scene Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) filmed was the nazgûl fight on Weathertop.
* Hugo Weaving (Elrond) has said in an interview that it scared him that he spent more time in
wardrobe than he did on the set.
* The actors have said they were constantly confused by people pronouncing their character
names differently. Apparantly it could often sound along the lines of; "Perhaps Legolas should
look at Gandolf when he says that." "I think it works better if both Legolas and Gimley
looked at Boromir..."
* Many Tolkien knowers have complained about the swords the Hobbits receive from Aragorn
on Weathertop. In the book they get their swords from Tom Bombadill, who recovers them
from the barrow downs, and they have a special magic which is important later on. When Merry stabs the Witch King of Angmar with his sword, the magic breaks the spell protecting the Witch King, allowing Éowyn to behead him. Many people
are annoyed that the Hobbits just recieve common swords instead, especially since there
could easily have been a line when Aragorn explains their magic.
* Contradicting the rumours that Merry will die, rumour has it Merry will take part in the
battle at the Black Gates.
* Each main character had about 10 different sets of each costume, plus several doublets in smaller or bigger scale for the scale-doubles along with sets for stunt people.
* Ever notice how the apples eaten by Merry are the same size as it would have been for a human, and not as big as they would have been to a hobbit?
* The hobbits were all supposed to speak with Gloucestershire accent. Gee, that makes it
perfectly unclear why Pippin was speaking Scottish.
* Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Sean Bean (Boromir), Orlando Bloom (Legolas) and sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) all had the same scale double.
* One might wonder why Frodo is dancing like a chicken at Bilbo's party...
* Rosie Cotton can be seen by the door as Frodo and Sam leave the Green Dragon.
* Even though the cave troll first flings Merry across the room and he lands with a hard thud, and later falls over, sending Pippin flying and also to land with a hard thud, nobody worries about their safety or if they're hurt.
* Poor Glorofindel never gets to be in any movies. In the animated Bakshi version he was replaced by Legolas and in the live action version by Arwen. Legolas' horse in the animated version was named Glorofindel though.
* Alan Lee, one of the conceptual illustrators who worked on the film, can be seen in the prologue as one of the Nine Mortal Men who recieves the rings.
The Two Towers
* Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) knocked out a tooth during the filming of a fight scene at Helm’s Deep.
* Liv Tyler (Arwen) spoke in an interview about the filming of the battle at Helm's, and how it seemed so real that when the extras playing orcs came charging against her she got so scared she screamed, dropped her sword and hid behind Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn).
* Arwen was originally present at the Helm's Deep battle, but during post production they decided to cut her out. In some sequences they "painted over" her with Legolas or Haldir, but the sharp-eyed can still spot her in some stills.
* Orlando Bloom (Legolas) fell off his horse once during the filming of the warg attack and broke a rib. They had to quit filming for the day, and later on Jackson realised they had forgotten to shoot clips of Legolas jumping up on his horse. The result of this is the sequence where Legolas does an impressive CGI leap up on the horse's back.
Cast and Crew Quotes
* Dominic Monaghan (Merry) commented in an interview on Merry and Pippin: "They're the Fonzies of the town. Everyone thinks they're cool - they're the Danny Zukos of the Shire. For Merry, losing Pippin is like losing his strength, the other side of his personality."
* Most of the cast and crew have said in interviews that if Peter Jackson had lived in
Middle-Earth, he would definitely have been a hobbit.
* Dominic Monaghan's (Merry) comments on the above subject; "We work so well with him because Pete understands Hobbits so well. Because he is a Hobbit. He has so many Hobbit qualities to him."
* Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) commented about the make-up he had to wear for the part in
one interview; "Actually I suspect that Gandalf really has a fake nose and a wig, and that
he looks completely different on the other side of the forest".
* Orlando Bloom (Legolas) has said the following about Peter Jackson; "It's a fantastic guy!
He's cool like an Elf, has the heart of a Hobbit and is crazy as a Wizard."
* John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) first auditioned for the part of Denethor in TTT and RotK. His
own comment in the matter; "I thought: 'I can go to New Zeeland for a few weeks, be in one
or a few amazing scenes and then go home and know that I've been in one of the greatest
movies of all time.' That was the thought. I was startled when they came back and asked me
to play Gimli".
* Billy Boyd (Pippin) has also made a comment on being cast for the film; "To play one of the main characters in it, it's not the kind of thing you don't do. 'Oh, I'd rather not play Pippin in Lord of the Rings'..., In fact, I'm trying to think - what else would you rather do, you know? I can't actually think of another job that I'd rather do."
* Elijah Wood (Frodo) has said the following about Sam's devotion to Frodo; "It's that
unconditional love that says that whatever you do or wherever you go I'm there for you."
* Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) has said the following about Orlando Bloom; "He is a terriffic
actor. He comes to me a lot for advice on how to do different scenes. And he laughs at all of my jokes. He is a terriffic actor."
* Sean Astin (Sam) commented in an interview on how it felt for the Hobbits to come to Bree; "It is in Bree that the Hobbits for the first time really get the feeling that they've left their secure home and gone on a dangerous adventure. Suddenly the Hobbits encounter people who look resolute and tense, and for the first time they can't look anybody in the eye. It's truly a
moment of 'We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto'".
* On the subject of the Scottish Pippin, Billy Boyd (Pippin) has said the following; "Hobbits are a lot like Scots. It's all about nature and enjoying their land, which is a very Scottish thing."
* Billy Boyd's (Pippin) comment on Hobbits and size; "It's not us who are short, it's all the other guys who are tall!"
* Billy Boyd (Pippin) has said the following about Pippin and Merry; "Actually, it's impossible to speak about Pippin without mentioning Merry. Pippin's whole life is about his friends, and especially about Merry.
The two of them are as close as friends can be - closer than family - so close you can't even imagine one of them doing
something without the other."
* Elijah Wood (Frodo) has said the following about his character; "He's just got a spirit, you know? That's what I love about him...he's very alive and very lively. You don't get to see a lot of that--only in the beginning of the first film--but his spirit, the light that's in him, is what holds him together."
* Orlando Bloom (Legolas) on physical acting; "Legolas' moves are smooth and elegant, like a cat...it's very balletic. It's also bloody hard to do without falling over!"
* Dominic Monaghan (Merry) has made the following comment on the shooting; "I won't miss having to stand for two hours at 4:30 a.m. and have freezing cold glue applied to my feet. I won't miss two-hour drives to work or long, long, long days sitting in my trailer waiting... waiting... waiting. I won't miss one day off a week. I won't miss glue in my ears. But I would do it all again tomorrow."

IN THE BOOK: In RotK, Pippin kills a troll. Suspicions are that his Moria stunt in the movie will be some form of replacement for that. Let's hope not!
Merry Brandybuck
If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Merry, Hobbit, heir of the Brandybucks and a friend of Frodo's.
