Profile

Steve Banks joined the Wanderers from Second Division Blackpool on transfer deadline day 25th March 1999.

Ex-manager Colin Todd had been tracking his progress for some time and eventually paid a transfer fee of £50,000, though had he been prepared to wait until the summer would not have had to pay a transfer fee as the keeper's contract with Blackpool would have expired.

He made an immediate impact in the side with an excellent display on his debut at Oxford United. He did much to bolster the Wanderers volatile defence in their bid to secure a play off place.

The start of the 1999/2000 season was blighted by injury but by December was competing with Jussi Jaaskelainen for the keeper's jersey.

Jussi's tremendous form meant that Steve had to be content with a permanent place on the bench for the duration of the season. He will be eager to fight for a place in the starting line up next season.
