Defender Dean Holden made his breakthrough senior side in the 1999/2000 season. After several appearances from the bench he made his first start against Wimbledon in the Worthington Cup fifth round at right back.

It was an impressive debut and he won praise for playing out of position from the boss.

He was sent off in the Wanderers thrilling 1-0 win over Charlton in the quarter final of the FA Cup and had a four match ban imposed on him.

Then against Sheffield United ten days before the FA Cup semi final against Aston Villa he broke his leg when he came on as a substitute. He is still recovering from this ordeal.
