Mike Whitlow Stats Squad No. 3 Born: Northwich (13/1/68) Height: 6'0" Weight: 13st 3lbs Playing Position: Defender Previous Clubs: Witton Albion, Leeds, Leicester City. Profile Full back Mike Whitlow returned to the Wanderers for a fee of £700,000 from Leicester in October 1997. He began his career as a trainee with the Wanderers without making a League appearance before joining non League Witton Albion. Leeds United paid £20,000 to take him into League football in November 1988 and he went on to play 96 first class games for the Elland Road club. In March 1992 he made a £250,000 move to Leicester City and was a member of their Wembley winning first division play off sides in 1994 and 1996. Mike was a regular in the Wanderers side 2 seasons ago, until he sustained injury in an FA Cup tie at Barnsley that brought a premature end to his season. At the start of the 1998/99 season Mike commented that there seemed to be over a dozen left full backs at the club and that he was ready to battle for his place. That he did and in the first couple of months turned in some solid performances. He looks comfortable in the 4-4-2 system and his experience will be invaluable as Bolton pursue a return to top flight football. He loves the game, is a solid professional and one of life's good guys. In the last year of his current contract but has, as yet, failed to agree terms for an extension. Agreed a new two year deal to stay at the Reebok just days before the play off semi finals. He is Mr.Dependable, but was forced to miss the opening day of the new season after being sent off for a second bookable offence against Ipswich in the second semi final of the play offs at Ipswich. |
