Me in my favorite area: The White Mtns of N.H.
Eric Tallberg
This page is to those who know me, for those who don't know me, but give a shit enough to know a little about me, and anyone else. I won't go into too many, "well, back then I..." I just hope to enlighten you on who I am and why I bothered putting this web site in cyberspace. I hope to add a few pictures of me, my fiance/wife/best friend/bitching
partner/etc...Barbara, my two kids and maybe a photo or two from my past travels in here at some point. I don't want this page to take forever (to download) for those who don't care, so I'll keep the pictures small and few.My background is a simple rural Massachusetts (Look: I even know how to spell the state name.) life where I grew up, in Amesbury. I went to school there-and I apologize to all my English teachers for the grammatical errors-and was raised there until I left for the Air Force in 1992.
Anyway, as of December 1998, I am 26 years old, a firefighter in the USAF stationed in Charleston S.C. and am divorced with two beautiful children, Eric William and Teia (said: tay-ah) Nichole.

I live now with Barbara who I met in Italy while I was stationed there for three years. She's not in the military, nor has she been. It was a love-at-first-sight thing. She even moved from Massachusetts to Charleston, S.C. for me, so I know we are more than just "good friends".
My interests are what possessed me to produce this page. I have not gone to school to study the themes in here. It was built more for my own purposes than anything else, such as boredom and desire to "just do it". Should you want to use this as research, it is as factual as I can manage, and please give me due credit. Anyway, I also have no formal computer training. I learned most of the "skills" (if that is what you want to call them...) while working as a dispatcher to the fire department in Charleston. I worked on the midnight shift for about 8 months and you get to know the computer pretty well since I use it for my job and to help keep my sanity in there(crashing the damned thing a few times along the way). I just learned how to use it quickly I guess, and I know how to ask a LOT of questions from people like Chad and Wade. Special thanks to them for putting up with my stupid questions.
My interest in
meteorology started a long time ago in 6th grade. I first began learning about it then and have been a "weather geek" ever since. I cannot, for the life of me, remember who my teacher was, but I want to thank who ever you are for getting me started. I remember being one of the first students to understand what a "front" was and what "isobars" were etc...(to be explained in the page), and that went a long way in my enjoyment in meteorology.I have begun going back to school at a college here in Charleston, but it is not for meteorology, nor is it for astronomy (yet). Actually I have another interest in Business/Marketing, probably due to a job offer I got one day last year. I hope to take formal classes in astronomy as this has become my hobbie of choice lately and it seems to have grown into somewhat of an obsession in ways. I spent most of my nights as a dispatcher on the internet looking up all sorts of crazy stuff, and found one site especially interesting:
MSNBC Space News which is where I got many starts to my reasearch. My COSMOLOGY page idea initially started there.As for the rest of my life, as I sit surrounded by junk here in my computer room at home, I have not really thought about my future as much as I should. After taking my business classes, and learning so much about the sciences meteorology and Astronomy as much as I have, I feel the decision will be tough. If you know me, let me in on your ideas. If you don't know me, your ideas count too, just not as much (HEY, would YOU trust a total stranger??). I think that if I want money, I'll go toward the business side. If I want self-satisfaction, I'll go for meteorology, and should I want a CHALLENGE, I'll go toward the Astrophysics side. I just DON'T KNOW!
The military thought I would make a better firefighter than a meteorologist by whatever means they have. I think they made a mistake, but...Well, firefighting isn't a bad job at all, I loved it in fact (when I was interested in it), but I have other things I'd rather do and though firefighting is no longer one of my favorites, I may still stick with it in the real world. I had fun for a while, but in the Air Force I didn't really do what firefighters do: Fight Fires. I sort of just did what I had to do to make the day go by. What a waste! Maybe in the real world, I can enjoy it.
How did I get in the military? Well, I
BLAME that on Dave. He wanted to go in initially and talked me into going to the recruiters with him. Anyone who knows about recruiters can tell you they talk a good deal. And I was too stupid to realize he is lying his ass off! Oh well, I got a lot of good out of it, I assure you. I saw Europe for 3 years while stationed in Aviano Italy, where I found out that Americans do have it easy, and that most Europeans are more trusting. There I learned a new culture and self-reliance. I also learned how to take a nap in the middle of the day. The Europeans take 2 hours for lunch and everything and I mean EVERYTHING shuts down. While I was there, Eric was born and I had to learn to grow up a lot as well.Once I returned to the "States," I was no longer married and I had a daughter as well (also with my ex-wife--before Barbara for those who have been keeping track). I was on my way to unfamiliar territory: the SOUTH! I am bred Yankee and have all the traits of being a Yankee (and will keep these traits). However, here the people are somewhat more friendly, more direct in what they say (seemingly less political correctness) and they are very patriotic and proud of their heritage (they STILL lost "the war"). I never new there was a difference between the NORTH and the SOUTH until I got here. Most, though, do not have any hostility to Northerners and are even willing to venture to the great "northern unknown". I think they would even survive an hour or two. I won't say anything about education here...(I'm not one to say anything anyway, huh?)
I would just like to say hi to a few people who I have known for some time and have not seen in some time.
First and foremost are my family, my dad, Eric; my mom, Arlene; my brother, Ben; and sister, Kati (both younger); my aunts and uncles who all live in different areas of MA, NH, ME and FL, my grandparents, "Big" Bill, Paul, Keri, Jon, Beth, Gary, Bob, Boyd, Mark's parents, Paul's parents, of course "Big " Bills parents coudn't be left out either, how could I? (they are my second parents, right guys?); and then there are some more recent friends I have I'd like to say hi to as well: Chris B. Eric and Annette P. (thanks for introducing B to me and here's something for you A.J.= and here's something for you Eric=

);
Hello also to Cristen, and Wade, who helped me devise this page. Chad, you helped too so I'll give you credit as well, and thanks for being a great friend and letting me use your HUGE telescope to see the planets as I could never have done otherwise. Saturn was cool! Hi Iris, Jean, Ralph, Nick, Brendan, Monique; and the rest of you guys on that side of "the family". Hi to Barbara's dad who I finally met in April 98. And to Elsbeth who may become my mom-in-law. Hopefully she gets used to me.
I hope I haven't left anyone out. If I have I assure you it was accidental and I will add you if you would like. By the way, if you want me to link to your home pages, let me know. If you have any ideas for me in life or for this page, please let me know!
