"Tioga's
Resurfacing On Schedule"
(Tioga,
NY) The legendary southern tier ½-mile promises to be smoother
and faster this year, thanks to a long awaited and badly needed
resurfacing. Promoter Chris Zacharias confirms that everything
is on schedule for the spring project.
"Dave
French (co-promoter) and I have been in constant communication
with the contractor on this. They promise us that we're first on
the list when weather permits," Zacharias stated.
"Billy King, from Vestal Asphalt, said the company will be
using state-of-the-art equipment. It's a 2-step process, with an
adhesive base coat and top coat. The entire track surface will
be repaved," he added.
No
delay in the 2003 schedule is anticipated. "A lot of people
have asked about the curing time of the blacktop. This is the
same process used on highways, where 18-wheelers pound on the
pavement the same day. The experts tell us we should be
race-ready a week after they put down the material,"
Zacharias explained.
Race
teams are encouraged to assist in tire testing. Only after
extensive testing will the 2003 track tires be determined.
"What we used in past years may no longer be the way to go.
We'll base that decision on test results for the best and safest
racing possible."
The
track's 2003 schedule includes open practices on April 12th and
19th. "We have no reason to think we'll have to push those
dates back. However, if we have to we will. This will be done
right."
This
and more track information is posted on the track's website,
