This page is about everything besides how to calculate the points.
There are several ways to do Geomancy. For the Earth based style, i.e. Golden Dawn, the quality of a reading usually is determined by the materials used for it. Here's the order from strongest to weakest. With the Astrological style this is not too much of an issue.
Here are various methods to get the points for the figures.
Name | Level | World |
---|---|---|
Adonai Ha Aretz | Sephiric | Atziluth |
Adonai | Elemental Subtle | |
Agla | Elemental Gross | |
Sandalphon | Sephiric | Briah |
Auriel | Elemental | |
Ashim | Sephiric | Yetzirah |
Phorlakh/Kerub | Elemental Subtle | |
Ghob | Elemental Gross | |
Gnome | Elemental Gross | |
Olam Yesodoth | Sephiric | Assiah |
Aretz | Elemental |
How the figures are placed depends on the style employed, reflected their Earthy or Astrological natures. However no matter what method the Mothers go in the Cardinal houses, the Daughters in the Fixed, and the Newphews in the Mutable Houses.
Earthy | Astrological | |
---|---|---|
Direction | Counter-clockwise (how the Houses advance) | Clockwise (how the Planets advance) |
M. Start | Capricorn (strongest Earth Sign) | Aries (first Zodiac Sign) |
D. Start | Aquarius | Taurus |
N. Start | Pisces | Gemini |
To be done in order for a thorough reading.
Significator: if the Ascendant is Scorpio, i.e. second Mother is Red or the Dragon's Tail, the reading is crap. This stems from Medieval practice of the Scorpio/Death being very evil. Since geomancy is very literal, this cannot be dismissed as a shmaltsy and mushy "we can draw good out of a bad circumstance" or "negativity is just blockage to be freed". Evil is evil, and the best adaptation of this part of the reading without removing its gravity is that there is something more important going on than the question you are asking.
"House Figure": Look at the figure that is in the predetermined house--henceforth called the House Figure. Look this up on all those tables on geomancy. This is the answer to the question.
Iudex/Judge: The Judge is the overall statement of the reading, similar to the final card of the Celtic Cross Tarot spread.
Testis Dexterum/Right Witness: This is the current situation, first step, querent, thesis, etc. and is similar to the first card of the Celtic Cross spread.
Testis Sinistrum/Left Witness: This is the next situation, middle step, enviroment of the question, antithesis, etc. and is simliar to the second card of the Celtic Cross spread.
Motus/Motion: See if the House Figure appears in other houses, i.e. does it Move?. The houses its moves to gives the detail to the House Figure. E.g. Q: will I pass my exams? A: Fortune Major. Motion: 1st, 7th. Interpretation: you will pass your favorite class and those pertaining to balance e.g. Law, Economics, Poly. Sci., Social Justice.
Pars Fortunæ/Part of Fortune: If your question concerns money make this figure. It's easier to count the dots off (really fast) by twelves than to do that whole "add then find the remainder" garbage. It describes what happens to money and assets specifically.
Locus/Location: Look at the House Figure and see if it is Dignified (best), Exalted (potent), Fallen (impotent), or Detriment (worst). There is also Strong Triplicities, which can be confusing at first, but here's how they are figured out.
Aspectus/Aspects: Tabulate the positives and negatives of the aspects from the House Figure and see how that goes. Interpretation should be quantitative here, not qualitative.
Planets | Sextile & Trine | Square & Opposition | |
---|---|---|---|
Good Figures | Jupiter, Sol, Venus | Very Good | Blocked Good |
Neutral Figures | Mecury, Luna | Good | Evil |
Evil Figures | Saturn, Mars | Blocked Evil | Very Evil |
Genitor: Look at the figure in the Fourth House for a "Final Outcome".
Reconcilium/Reconciler: If at this point you still do not know the answer "marry" the House Figure and Judge for the Reconciler, i.e. the same operations to form the Nephews. This figure is invalid if you make it because you don't like the answers so far.
