Geomancy Soil Kit Construction & Care
Tools
- Dirt: any will do, the only to possibly types to avoid are ones from water sources e.g. a river bed or beach
- Sift/Sieve: any will do with medium sized holes, grab one from your kitchen or check your local dollar store, druggist, or convenience mart for kiddie beach toys
- Pestle: the best (and cheapest) kind is a tree branch about 1.5 inches thick a knot for the base
- 2 Large Containers: a large paint bucket, stew pots, or coffee cans are fine
- Shallow Baking Pan: this by far is the best device for squilling the dirt on
- Take the dirt and put in the container and stir with the pestle. Use a figure eight motion and just break up the dirt to be "loose."
- Sift dirt little by little. Just shake it around, and use the pestle if needed to push it through the mesh. Keep going until their are only left overs. E.g. rocks, roots, glass, insects, etc.
- Repeat till done.
- Place soil in an air tight container until usage. Ideal ones would be plastic food storage containers, old coffee cans, or cookie tins.
Anti-Fungal & Soil Moistening
- beer
- soda (non-diet)
- liquid dish detergent
- household ammonia
Over time two things will happen to the soil. First it will dry out and squilling will result in dots that look like ant lion pits. They will be very fragile and blend together making it difficult to count. Second depending on the soil composition fungi will grow. To avoid both mix one cup of all the ingredients in a large spray bottle/atomizer and fill the rest of it with water. Then take your dirt and put a little bit into another container. Remove any visible fungi, then spray all of it till it's nice and moist. Test it will your squilling wand for your desired constancy. Mix it with the pestle. Add a little more dry dirt. Check it. Spray it. Mix. Repeat till done.
The solution will not actual kill any fungi but stimulate its growth. Why do you want to stimulate it? Fungi will grow as long as there is a food source in the soil and the only way to remove it is for the fungi to do it for your. So this process must be repeated about once a week for a month depending on how much dirt you have until it's finally processed.
