Andhra
Pradesh Travel Tourism Development Corporation has brought the saga of
great Vijayanagara Empire to life with a spectacular Sound and Light
show at Chandragiri Fort. The story with breath taking Audio Visual
effect unfold the power,Glory and Tragedy of Chandragiri Fort.
The Chandragiri Fort is located
from the famous Temple town of Tirupati and easily accessible from Bangalore
and Chennai. The
Fort, said to have been constructed in 1000 A.D. by Immadi Narsimha Yadava
Rayulu, one of the kings, who reigned at Narayanvanam in the Karvetinagar
Zamindari and additions made, was during the Vijayanagara dynasty.
The
Fort fell to the Sultan of Golconda in 1646, In 1758, it was held by Abdul
Wahab Khan, brother of the Nawab of the Carnatic.Hyder Ali took over the
Fort in 1742 and it remained with Mysore Kingdom until the Treaty of Srirangapatnam
in 1792. The Fort finally ended up with the British in 1799.
The Fort is buuilt on a high
rounded mass of granite, rising about 183 meter above the surrounding valley.
It has a circumfrence of about 2Kilometers and covers an area of 25.50
acres.The Fort consist of Two parts the lowre and upper.
While the outer gate face
west, the inner gate faces East, which makes penetration in to the main
Fort area, very difficult.The inner Fort there are two places-the Raja
Mahal and the Rani Mahal.The lower portion is built of stone, while the
upper is made of bricks.
The
Skyline, is pleasantly broken by Hindu minations,resembling the tops of
'gopurams' or towers, the largest one surmounting the Dharbar Hall.
It was in the Rajamahal that
a small strip of land on Chennai coast was granted to the British by the
Raja of Chandragiri in 1640.The Fort St.George was built there marketing
the beginning of the British conquest of India. The
Fort has probably more temples than any others.There is a pool and also
a well in the Fort.
The
modern town of Chandragiri is neatly built and lies to the east of the hill
on which stands the Fort.The surrounding area is fertile and picturesque-with
interesting archaeological reminds,desolate temples,reserviors and finally
carves 'mantapams'.
This prestigious project was
successfully completed and commissioned for the public by Honourable Chief
Minister Sri.N.Chandra Babu Naidu.The narration in English was done with
