The Chandragiri Fort is located from the famous Temple town of Tirupati and easily accessible from Bangalore and Chennai. The Fort, said to have been constructed in 1000 A.D. by Immadi Narsimha Yadava Rayulu, one of the kings, who reigned at Narayanvanam in the Karvetinagar Zamindari and additions made, was during  the Vijayanagara dynasty.

The Fort fell to the Sultan of Golconda in 1646, In 1758, it was held by Abdul Wahab Khan, brother of the Nawab of the Carnatic.Hyder Ali took over the Fort in 1742 and it remained with Mysore Kingdom until the Treaty of Srirangapatnam in 1792. The Fort finally ended up with the British in 1799.

The Fort is buuilt on a high rounded mass of granite, rising about 183 meter above the surrounding valley. It has a circumfrence of about 2Kilometers and covers an area of 25.50 acres. The Fort consist of Two parts the lowre and upper.

While the outer gate face west, the inner gate faces East, which makes penetration in to the main Fort area, very difficult. The inner Fort there are two places-the Raja Mahal and the Rani Mahal. The lower portion is built of stone, while the upper is made of bricks.

The Skyline, is pleasantly broken by Hindu minations, resembling the tops of 'gopurams' or towers, the largest one surmounting the Dharbar Hall.

It was in the Rajamahal that a small strip of land on Chennai coast was granted to the British by the Raja of Chandragiri in 1640.The Fort St.George was built there marketing the beginning of the British conquest of India. The Fort has probably more temples than any others. There is a pool and also a well in the Fort.

The modern town of Chandragiri is neatly built and lies to the east of the hill on which stands the Fort. The surrounding area is fertile and picturesque-with interesting archaeological reminds, desolate temples, reserviors and finally carves 'mantapams'.

This prestigious project was successfully completed and commissioned for the public by Honourable Chief Minister Sri.N.Chandra Babu Naidu. The narration in English was done with the courtesy of Shri.Amitabh Bacchan and Telugu by Sri M.P.Sharma.
