PURPOSE:           
The changed concept of exhibiting wild animals in cramped cages to that of vast, natural and simulted enclosures has established the Zoological Parks world over as centres of Wildlife conservation and environmental education in addition to research and recreation. The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department which has two of India's best Zoos to its credit at Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam, has setup its third venture at Tirupati.
Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara, with a daily visitation of about 40,000 people from all over the country,and a number of academic and professional educational institutions, is ideally suited to achieve the objectives of an idealZoological Park.The foundation for the Zoological Park, extending over an area of 5532 acres, was laid on 29-9-1987 and is named Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park
THEME:           
Be a Roman when you are in Rome", is the spirit behind the theme of Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park. Considering the  background and the attitude of people visiting this worls famous temple town, it is proposed to develop the Zoological  Park on a spiritual theme. the message of conservation of Nature with all its diversity, will be conveyed by highlighting the role of Animal and Plant life in Indian Culture Mythology and literature.It would also remind the modern man, the placement given to Wildlife by our ancestors. Depiction of Matsya, Kurma, Varaha and Narasimha Avatharas, which are the incarnations of Almighty, right at the entrance, provides and opening to the new theme of Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park.
OUR PLANS:               
It is the auspicious arrival of an Elephant calf, rescued from cyclones that set the tone for the establishment of Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park. Aptly, the Park name him VENKANNA Now, the exhilarting 'Kishkinda', the kingdom of primates, followed by enchanting 'Mayuravani' of peafowls, fabulous 'Mrugavani' for herbivores, and 'Vrukavihar, for smaller carnivores, along with parakeets, munias, ducks and geese have already taken their niche in Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park. The apawling emerald lawns flanked by towering Sapthagiries,  greet the visitor.
The Zoological Park looks forward for installation of awe-inspiring safaries, enthralling Reptile and Nocturnal animal houses, amusing insectorium and thought provoking and thought provoking environmental education centre and children's corner at a cosy nook. The inevitable human associates, the birds, do have a befitting place in the plan and they inclulde Flamingoes, Swans, Pelicans, Ducks, Geese, Parrots, Parakeets, Macaws and Cockatoos along with their fightless cousins and raptors. The kingly lion and magestic tiger along with other bigger cats, will surely become nucleus of attraction. To make the Zoological Park full fledged, adequate provision is made for animal health care and research. Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park when shaped to its plan, will be a feast to the eye. It will awaken the environmental consciousness in the masses to preserve it for posterity.

LOCATION:

This park is located around 10 Km. from Tirupati Busstand on the way from foot hills Alipiri to Chandragiri on new bypass road, and is well connected by local buses and can be reached by Autorickshaws and local Taxis.
