You look from Kevin's outstretched palm to the boy's face and back again. For a moment, just a moment, you're tempted but then reality crashes in around you. You take a step backwards. Who does this guy think he is? Coming back into your life after six years and pretending to know everything.
"Keep away from me." You try and make the words threatening but they become a gasp as the headache crashes back in to your skull. "Just keep away from me, Kevin. I don't know where you've been all these years but if you think I'm going with you now you must be crazy! For all I know you could be the one causing all this!"
"Jay..." He begins and his voice trails off. "Look, I know how weird this must all be. I know it's frightening."
"I'm not frightened," you declare and you hate the sound of the little kid bravado in your voice. "I just want you to leave me alone or I'll shout so loudly that everyone in the park comes running."
Behind Kevin, you see three large cars pulling up in the Car Park attached to the playing fields. Even as the pain in your head makes your vision shrink into a narrowing tunnel, you realise that there's something odd about the men climbing out of these cars. They look wrong, somehow, out of place amongst the kids and the parents and the teenagers playing football. These men are too smart and too neat to be here, now. They look as if they should be handing their car keys to a valet before heading up to their executive suites. Kevin doesn't seem to have noticed. As you stagger away from him, the other boy remains standing with his back to the car park, unaware of the men approaching him from behind.
Kevin seems to be talking. You can hear the words clearly even though you should be too far away now to make out such faint speech.
[This isn't working, Adam. I know something's interfering with his breakout but I don't think he's going to let us help]
You turn around, curious about who Kevin can possible be speaking to. One of the men in suits, perhaps? But no, Kevin still seems unaware of the new arrivals as they close on him from behind. You shake your head, trying to clear your vision, and it's with a vague sense of unreality that you see one of the men knock Kevin to the ground with a single blow.
The man picks Kevin up like a limp rag doll and begins to run back to the car with him. A second man accompanies them and this man is leaning over the first, trying to force Kevin's arms into some type of coat as they run.
You begin to stagger forward as the other men leave.
Do you:
a) Chase after the men who took Kevin?
b) Give in to the headache and let them go?
