Dreams of Tomorrow

Part 25:

You wander through mile after mile of pointless corridor and ponder how stupid it was for you to split up. You thought that finding your way out would be easy but instead you just seem to be heading deeper and deeper into the complex. just to make matters worse your headache is back too, worsening with every breath you take. You begin to wonder just where Megabyte's Dad and his WorldEx people have got to. There doesn't seem to be any sign of them.

It's almost a relief when Dr Thomas and three men step out of a side corridor in front of you. Thomas's eyes are fixed on some kind of hand held computer screen and the others are following him. When they see you, though, all three surge forward.

"There he is!" One of them shouts as they grab your arms. The expression on Dr Thomas' face is a mixture of relief and anger. Two of the men are holding your arms and, as the third begins to force your arms into yet another of the psi damping waistcoats, Thomas turns the small screen so you can see. On it is a map of the complex and at one point there is a pulsing, jagged blob.

"I told you that the waistcoat was regulating your powers, boy!" Thomas snaps. We've been tracking you by the excess energy that's pulsing through the centre." He snaps the last fastening into place. "I know someone else was trying to regulate it for you but an organic mind just cant keep up that kind of concentration at a distance. I don't know where your friend has got to and I know he or she means well but you just cant survive without the jacket unless another telepath is right there with you."

You don't try to struggle. The relief from your neuralgia that the waistcoat provides is starting to persuade you that there's some truth in what Thomas is saying. Thomas nods at your seeming acquiescence.

"Follow me." He says and the men holding you release your arms as you begin to walk.
