Before anyone can react you're breaking away from the group, running forward.
A massive release of energy, they said. Everyone has spent the last few hours telling you that you're a massive storehouse of unreleased energy. You can only one think of one thing to do.
"Jay!" Kevin and Adam are calling your name and Damon begins to run forward, trying to catch you but you don't look back.
As you reach the boundaries of the energy cube you are already scrabbling at the fastening of your waistcoat. You take a deep breath as you dive into the shimmering surface, so reminiscent of water.
The breath is knocked out of you as the electric shock passes through every nerve in your body. Your movements become jerky, spasmodic, as you turn to face your friends through the coloured energy barrier. They look scared, desperate, and you want to tell them that it's going to be okay, that you have to do this.
For the first time since all this started in the park you're sure of what you have to do.
Finally, finally, as you begin to lose feeling in your arms, you manage to tear the waistcoat open and instantly you begin to feel the same energy drain that the others have been enduring. But this time there's more to drain. Your energy has been building up, despite the waistcoat's best efforts.
Your psychic powers burst out with a mental roar that knocks you to your knees. Distantly you see the projection columns bursting into flames as the energy cube begins to collapse. Your vision begins to fade out as you're engulfed by electric light.
