The field looks frightening but as you look around at your pale friends, stunned scientists and the helpless WorldEx agents you know that it's all going to be up to you. The waistcoat is protecting you from the field's effect and you're the only one who's going to be able to get close to it.
You look around, desperately, and for the first time you remember the grenades you saw hanging from the WorldEx men.
In an instant you're running towards the energy field, grabbing a pair of grenades from Damon's belt as you pass him. He shouts and begins to run after you.
"Jay, get away from that thing!" You hear Adam calling but you're committed now.
"Get back," You yell. "Get down!"
And then you're standing at the fringe of the energy field, feeling it prying at the back of your mind. Without hesitation, you pull the pins from both grenades and, with them firmly held in your hands, shove your arms up to the shoulders into the field. You can feel the electrical tingle of it against your cheeks as you release the grenades. They're supported in the energy field and you fall backwards, counting under your breath. You huddle with your arms over your head. Around your back and chest the waistcoat is almost hot enough to burn. Almost idly you wonder if it's going to be enough to protect you when this thing goes up.
And then the grenades blow.
