p> Part 9
John comes to see you first thing in the morning. His brown hair frames a tired looking face but there is approval in his eyes as he studies the colour returning to your face and the strength returning to your mind.
"So, Jay. I wasn't expecting your trip to the Trig to be so eventful!" He raises an eyebrow wryly clearly waiting for you to respond.
You manage a weak smile but you know he's not going to like what you're got to say.
"John, I want to go home."
John's smile fades into resignation and sadness.
"Jay, are you sure? Really sure?"
You hesitate, but only for a moment, before nodding.
"I'm sure. John, I'm not saying that I want to leave the Tomorrow People for ever. I don't think I could do that even if I wanted to. But I do need time and space. I need to learn to control my abilities and I need to think about what they mean for my life. I want to go home, to see my parents and my friends. John, if you or the others need my help I'll be there when you call but, well, I don't think I'm quite ready for the full reality of all this just yet."
For a moment you think John is going to argue with you but in the end he just smiles a tired smile.
"Get your things together, Jay, and we'll leave when you're ready. You know how to find the Lab. You know how to call us if you need us. Jay, you'll always be a Tomorrow Person and I think eventually you'll understand and come back to us. We can give you that time."
*****
You say goodbye to Stephen, Carol and Mike, and then to Elizabeth, Andrew and Hsu Tai. You feel the regret in their minds but also an underlying confidence. They are sure you'll be back and deep down you know that they're right.
For now you've had enough.
For now you don't want the new life that has landed on you.
But one day you will and when you do it will be waiting for you!
