Part 12
[Frankie, listen to me!] You call desperately. [You have to listen to me and not resist.] You're not sure if your calls are reaching him. Alone you may not have the strength to help at all but there is no time to spare for a link with the others.
[There's a way through this, Frankie. There is a way to release the pain. There is a wall in your mind, Frankie] You say quietly. You feel Paul, Elena and TIM moving to reinforce your mental contact. [The noise and the pain are building up against it, flowing over the top. If you can just break that wall down, the pain and noise will flow through you and past you and then they wont hurt you any more. Break out, Frankie. Let me guide you and break out. You can escape all this!]
You listen, hoping rather than believing that you might have made contact. Frankie looks at you with clouded and uncertain eyes.
"Escape." He whispers aloud but before you can reach out to him and help him a strange expression passes across his face. Fading almost in slow motion from view, he jaunts.
John grabs your arm. Arguing with the de Tayne's he only caught the tail end of what happened. With the parents stunned into silence by their child's disappearence he turns urgent thoughts towards you.
[Jay, that jaunt didn't go anywhere! Frankie has to be in hyperspace. TIM, do you have the coordinates?]
[I'm afraid not, John. Paul, Elena and I still cannot detect anything from Frankie except through Jay and we were unable to follow his mental path as he jaunted.]
[Jay, did you get it? Could you find him in hyperspace?]
You nod once, unwillingly. Your last, tumbling, near fatal trip through hyperspace comes back to you with devestating clarity. You came within seconds of death in the tranquil but deadly environment. The thought of jaunting back there deliberately fills you with a primal horror that triggers all your instincts for self preservtion.
[Jay, with each second he could be drifting further from wherever he entered hyperspace.] John reminds you.
