A Population Study for the Kindred Spirits Universe
On this Page
The population increase during the Mass Breakout can be simply described as an exponential population growth rate in the UK given by:
1972-2005 |
No. of Breakouts in UK = 1.0 per year |
2006- |
No. of Breakouts in UK = (5.0)*(years since 2006)4.0 per year |
The worldwide population growth is slightly slower (25% slower per head of population).
This yields a global population that reaches 10 million in the year 2015 and 75 million in 2020. The UK population alone reaches 1 million in 2021.

The demographics of the TP population are difficult to estimate. I have applied simple rules as follows:
- The ages of those breaking out in each year are drawn from a gaussian distribution, peaking at the age of 17 and with 66% of breakouts aged between 14 and 20
- That in each year 10% of the Tomorrow People over the age of 20 have a child (i.e. each TP couple have two children in a 20 year reproductive lifespan). This is probably a conservative estimate as the Tomorrow People are more likely to have an explosive population than a reproductively stable one.
- That 10% of these children breakout at the age of 7, 40% at 8, 40% at 9 and 10% at age 10.
This yields a population demographic dominated by the breakouts in any particular year but modified at both ends of the age range by smaller populations.
Population Demographics (UK population)
Age Distribution of Tomorrow People in 2021 (UK): The distribution of full Tomorrow People is shown by a solid line. The distribution of pre-breakout second generation children is shown with a dashed line. The dotted line shows the age distribution of new first generation breakouts in this year.
