Aajmaii and Cilaynth

Can we go down to the hunting grounds? Cilaynth asked her rider from her spot out on her ledge.

Jaamiaa stroked Masut, her green firelizard, and said, “Just let me wake up for a moment. I’ve only just awakened and you wish to drag me out of bed already.”

Cilaynth snorted and said, All the other riders let their dragons go down to the grounds without them. How come you won’t let me do that? It would make things to much easier.

Jaamiaa shook her head and said, “I’m not supposed to let you go down there by yourself. All the riders that let their dragons do so are breaking a Weyr rule.”

Cilaynth sighed and said, Fine I suppose I will wait for you then. There was a slight pause and then her dragon asked, Will you hurry up though rider-mine? I am hungry!

Jaamiaa sighed, stroked Masut once more, and then threw the covers from her bed. She rubbed her eyes a few times and then said, “Alright I’m up. Just let me bathe quickly and then I’ll be right out.”

Cilaynth sighed and said, You never bathe quickly.

“Well I will today,” Jaamiaa replied as she walked into the bathing room.

When Jaamiaa walked into her dragon’s room ten minutes later, Cilaynth was pacing slowly, looking from the ledge and then back to the door that leads to her rider’s room. “Are you ready?” She asked as she walked through the door.

Cilaynth looked up and said, I have been ready for ten minutes now.

Jaamiaa sighed and followed her dragon out onto the ledge, where she mounted up and positioned herself between two of her dragon’s neck ridges. “Well, you can look forward to going down by yourself when you become an adult,” she said as she gripped the neck ridge in front of her.

Cilaynth snorted and said, I still have over six months until I am considered an adult. The green-gold leapt from the ledge and began to spiral towards the hunting grounds lazily.

As she landed Jaamiaa dismounted and looked around. “There are a lot of people here today,” she commented as she looked at the many different colored dragons that had all chosen to feed that this moment.

Cilaynth shrugged and said, Well it will not be a problem. Some of the males will make room for me.

As her dragon took off again and flew towards the beast pen Jaamiaa smiled and said, “Don’t count on it.”
