Come and see how beautiful out it is today C’fre, the bronze said to his rider. C’fre rolled over in his bed in annoyance and sighed, “Tahirth it’s too early. Let me be for a little longer.” The bronze snorted and poked his nose though the doorway, the only part that would fit. Whoever thought up these doors did not design them very well, he said as he pulled his nose out and tilted his head so he could look through the door. It is already mid-day C’fre, so it is time to rise. Besides, I’m hungry and I don’t wish to go down to the hunting grounds by myself.

C’fre laughed slightly and rolled over. “For one, whoever designed these doors did not design them for a dragon’s large head and why, in the name of the heavens are you afraid to go to the hunting grounds by yourself?” Tahirth snorted and pulled his head away. I said nothing that implied that I was afraid. I just like going there with you. C’fre smiled and pulled the sheets away, disturbing his cream firelizard and making her squawk in annoyance. “Sorry Jonerat,” he said as he got out of bed. Tahirth lowered his head again and looked through the door. We can go now? He asked happily. C’fre nodded and walked into the bathing room. “Just let me get cleaned up and get some clean clothes on. I mean, you never know who you’re going to run into while you’re down there.”

After a few minutes C’fre walked into Tahirth’s quarters, running a hand through his damp hair. The large bronze looked down at him calmly and said, That took you long enough. I was beginning to wonder whether or not you had drowned in that bathing pool. C’fre smiled and said, “Well I’m ready to go now. I’m assuming you still wish to go?” Tahirth warbled and let his rider climb to his back. When C’fre was comfortable Tahirth walked to the ledge and dove off, flying lazily towards the hunting grounds.

When they landed C’fre slid down from his dragon’s back and said, “Ok your limit is five alright? I don’t want you becoming too obese to fly.” Tahirth snorted but said, C’fre I am a growing dragon, I need my sustenance. C’fre laughed and said, “You overgrown wherry you stopped growing four months ago, now go eat!” Tahirth warbled and flew off towards the herd or beast, scattering them as his large shadow passed over them.

C’fre watched as his dragon flew off and then he walked back towards the fence, where he leaned up against it, watching the other dragons who were also hunting their meals. An exceptionally large white caught his eye and he watched him or her for awhile until a hand rested lightly on his shoulder, making him jump and turn around quickly. “Oh sorry there C’fre I didn’t mean to freak you out. I’m V’mir, rider of brown Gwainth. We’re one of the wingseconds on the Adunik wing.” C’fre put his hand out and said, “Nice to meet you. What do you need?” V’mir smiled and said, “Well the wingleader just resently transferred to Dark Moon Weyr and we are now in need of a wingleader. The weyrleader and weyrwoman seem to think that you and Tahirth would be a good choice, and I agree wholeheartedly.” C’fre blinked in confusion and asked, “You want me and Tahirth to lead the Adunik wing?” V’mir nodded and C’fre said, “Well I don’t see why not. I won’t know what to do in the beginning of course but I pick things up easily.” V’mir waved his hand in the air and said, “Oh don’t worry about that. I can help you though everything. So you accept?”

C’fre nodded. “Of course I do. I wouldn’t pass this up. Just let me make sure that Tahirth feels the same way,” he said as he walked back to where his dragon was eating on the grass a few hundred feet away. When he reached him he placed a hand on his shoulder and said, “Tahirth what would you answer be if I said we’d been given the chance to lead the Adunik wing?” Tahirth stopped eating and looked at his rider in amazement. I would ask if you were serious at first but then I would say why would I not want to lead the wing? C’fre smiled, patted his dragon and then gave the thumbs-up sign to V’mir. The brownrider waved back, letting him know he’d seen and then walked off. There are mostly rares on that wing, and if I am correct we would be the only bronze pair. C’fre nodded. “Yes I know but I think that would be a good opportunity for us don’t you think?”

Tahirth nodded his head slightly and said, Yes I agree entirely. I think that it will help us greatly. I was also thinking of something else. C’fre raised an eyebrow and looked away as Tahirth tore a chunk of meat from the carcass of the beast. “What were you thinking?” Tahirth gave a small shrug and said, Would you let me chase in a mating flight if there were a female that I wished to catch? C’fre nodded and asked, “Yes I suppose so. Which female did you have in mind?” Tahirth shrugged again as he took another bite from the beast and said, Well there are many good females that are rising right now and I was originally thinking about entering a sr. queen's flight but I have no urge to become weyrleader so I thought about who was rising besides the senior queens. C’fre looked at his dragon and said, “And who exactly is rising besides those senior females?”

The bronze hesitated for a moment and then said, There is gold Alierath, rising at Dawn Sisters Weyr. She is a very pretty queen and I bet her rider is just as good looking. C’fre patted his dragon’s leg and said, “Tahirth, looks aren’t everything but if you wish to fly this female I will let you. I know which one you talk of and her rider is very nice, which is also important. Her dragon is the same?” Tahirth warbled and said, Of course she is. Does not the saying ‘like rider, like dragon’ still exist? C’fre smiled widely and then said, “Well let’s go sign you up then.” C’fre began to walk away but stopped when he noticed that Tahirth wasn’t following. He turned around and said, “Well aren’t you coming?” Tahirth looked at his rider and said, You said I could have five beasts. I have only eaten four! C’fre rolled his eyes and laughed as he said, “Well go and get another then!” Tahirth warbled happily and took off towards the herd again.
