H’lian got up from his chair and stretched. It had now been six months since anything had happened, that is until today. Lelianth’s clutch had hatched and a bronze named Jumarth had taken to him. H’lian sighed happily at the thought. He thought about how he had felt while standing on those hot sands. The fear of not Impressing was running through his mind almost constantly. However, the thought of Impressing was running around just as much. Well did you think I was going to let you stand on those sands alone H’lian? Jumarth asked from the other room. Hearing his voice made him jump and he asked, “Weren’t you sleeping before?” The bronze walked sleepily into the room and sat by the chair. I was, but I am not now. Brown Galeoth woke me. He says that there will be a party for the new dragonriders tonight. H’lian smiled. “Oh that sounds like fun. Will you mind if I go and leave you with Kielao?” Jumarth sighed and scratched his head neck with his back leg before answering. It is not my first choice, but I do not mind. H’lian patted his lifemate’s head and then said, “Thanks, you’re a savior. You have no idea how bored I’ve been all these months.” Jumarth snorted. You think I did not become bored of being inside that small egg for all those months?

He stroked Kielao and then set him on the chair. “Alright, I’m heading down to the candidate barracks, for that’s where the party is being held. If you need anything just call for me,” he said as he rubbed the eyeridges of his lifemate one last time before departing. Kielao was about to fly after him but Jumarth rumbled and kept him to the chair. H’lian closed the weyr door behind him and walked down the stairs, thinking of what will happen tonight.

He walked into the candidate barracks and was greeted by N’gal, rider of the recently hatched blue Negonith. “Hey H’lian,” he said. He nodded a welcome and then walked towards the refreshment table so he could get something to drink. As he took a sip a pretty girl by the name of Anlaya. She tossed her hair and looked in his direction but he decided to ignore her, for now anyway. After finishing his drink he walked over to a group of boys who were apart from everyone else. “Mind if I join you?” He asked. They shook their heads and he joined their conversation, which revolved around who would get the drunkest and score tonight. H’lian rolled his eyes and excused himself, heading to the dance floor. As he reached it a girl grabbed him around the waist and said, “Dance with me H’lian.” He was too nice to say no he put his arms around her and decided to enjoy himself.

After the dance he walked excused himself again and greeted Z’yar, a fellow bronzerider. “Getting any action yet?” He asked him. H’lian shrugged. “There isn’t anyone here really, I just danced with Teyea but that wasn’t anything special. Anlaya has been looking at me all night but she hasn’t made a move and I think I’m going to play around with her, you know how it works.” Z’yar nodded and smiled. “Yes I know very well,” he said as he looked around the room. “Uh oh, don’t look now but Ncorya is heading this way. I think we should make ourselves scarce.” H’lian nodded in agreement, not wanting to get involved with that particular greenrider. He looked around him and gave a half-smile to Leeorna and walked over to her. “Hi H’lian,” she said softly. He brushed his hair out of his face and said, “How’s it going Leeorna?” She smiled and stood up, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him lightly on the lips. “Pretty good now. So who have you danced with tonight?” He smelled alcohol on her breath but then again, he probably wasn’t much better. He shrugged and then said, “Only one or two, I only just got here.” She nodded and moved closer to him. Wow she is really wasted, he thought to himself as he let her get closer. I think you shall be the same way when you arrive at the weyr after the party has ended, Jumarth commented. He rolled his eyes and said, Hey, you’re not helping here. I think I’ll be lucky if I even make it to my own weyr.

When the song was over he peeled the greenrider from him and escorted her to her seat, mainly so that she wouldn’t fall over on the way. After he had done that he checked his watch. Uh oh, it’s getting late, better make my move now, he thought as he went to find Anlaya. When he did she was surrounded by other male dragonriders and he was about to go talk to someone else, figuring he wouldn’t even get the chance to talk to her when said called out, “H’lian hold on!” He turned around and saw her get up off the lap of another rider and run towards him. “Sorry ‘bout that. How’s it going?” She asked as she put her arm around his waist and walked to the other side of the room. H’lian did the same and then said, “Pretty good I guess, a lot of people are really trashed.” She nodded thoughtfully. “Well yeah, they have more fun that way. I prefer the men who at least keep a little sober. How ‘bout you?” He shrugged and sat down in one of the chairs, letting her sit on his lap after he was comfortable. “I don’t know, probably a little sober. I guess it doesn’t matter though. I mean, you end up in the same place at the end of the night right?” She laughed and then said, “Where do you want to end up tonight bronzerider?”
