“Bronzerider H’lian?” The man asked. “Yes?” He asked. The man took a sheet of folded paper from his pocket and handed to him. “Message from Tiynarea Weyr.” H’lian blinked. “Tiynarea? Why are they sending me stuff?” he asked in confusion. The man shrugged. “Don’t ask me, I’m only the messenger.” H’lian thanked him and then closed the door, going back to his chair. Kielao, his blue firelizard hopped into the back of the chair and watched as his owner opened the letter. H’lian read through it and then sighed. “Jumarth?” H’lian called. There was silence for a moment and then his dragons said, Yes H’lian? H’lian got up from the chair and walked into the other room, holding the note in the air. “Do you know anything about this?” The bronze cocked his head and asked, Know anything about what? H’lian shook the note in his face, or as close to it as he could. “Tiynarea is requesting us to relocate to their Weyr.” Jumarth looked surprised. Why are they contacting us of all the pairs? “That’s what I was thinking. So you didn’t know? I wonder of someone want’s us to be gone.” Jumarth snorted. Not likely. Maybe they are just short on bronzes and have asked Talor Cliff if they could spare a few.
H’lian sighed and walked down the hall towards the weyrleader’s weyr. He knocked lightly on the door when he reached it and as it opened he put his finger up and started to talk when D’ten silenced him with a quick flick of his hand. “Bronzerider H’lian, I already know what you are going to ask me. I am sending you to Tiynarea because we have too many bronzes here at the moment. I have been asking around for a few months now for Weyrs willing to take some of you. Tiynarea had put forth a plea for help during the Falls so I asked if they would like a few extra bodies. They agreed of course and this is why you got the notice.” H’lian put his hand down and scratched his head. “Oh alright, Jumarth and I were worried that we had failed you in some way and you were sending us away.” D’ten shook his head. “No of course not H’lian. You are one of the last pairs I would expect to ever fail me. Now I’m sorry I can’t talk any longer but I’m trying to think up some new flight formations.” H’lian nodded, bowed slightly and then walked back to his weyr.
H’lian walked back into his weyr and stood before Jumarth as he stretched his wings. “Well I have the explanation for this notice,” H’lian said. Jumarth said nothing and H’lian continued. “We are being sent to Tiynarea because Talor Cliff has too many bronzes, which is hard to believe I admit but we didn’t do anything wrong, and actually, he said we would be some of the few that he would expect the best from.” Jumarth warbled. That is a relief. When must we depart? H’lian shrugged and said, “Let me check.” He walked back into the other room and picked the letter up. He scanned it and then frowned. He walked back into the other room and said, “We are to leave tonight.” Jumarth snorted. Tonight? So much for giving us an advanced notice. H’lian nodded. “Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. Well let’s get our stuff together and get out of here.” Jumarth stretched his wings again and said, You don’t wish to say goodbye to anyone? H’lian shook his head. “No, I think it is better to leave without any word to anyone.” Jumarth sighed and H’lian went into the other room to pack.
When he had finished packing he walked back into the other room and set his bag down before walking over to the saddle rack and picking it up. Jumarth kneeled down and H’lian placed in before his withers and strapping it on. He lashed to pack to it and then walked into the other room, looking around to make sure he wasn’t going to forget anything. When he made sure he hadn’t he walked back into the other room and said, “Alright let’s go Jumarth.” The bronze grumbled and walked towards the ledge. H’lian climbed to his back and strapped himself into the saddle. When he was ready Jumarth took off and gained altitude quickly. He was about to make the leap between when H’lian yelled out, “NO!” He felt Jumarth’s mind relax and then the bronze asked, We are not to go between? Why not? H’lian said, “Because we’ve never been there, I can’t give you a picture. I know it’s near Talor Cliff and on the Southern coast so we’ll follow that and I’m sure we won’t have a problem locating it.” Jumarth grumbled but flew off along the coast.
Later that week H’lian woke up to Kielao’s wedge shaped head in his face. “Ahh!” He cried out in surprise. “Kielao what do you want?” The blue chirped and pictured Jumarth on the hunting grounds, watching a queen blood her kill. H’lian got out of bed and dressed. “He’s down there and he didn’t even warn me?!” He exclaimed as he pulled a clean shirt over his head. I have not H’lian. I am still in the other room. H’lian raised an eyebrow and looked at Kielao questioningly. The blue “shrugged” and chirped. H’lian rolled his eyes and walked into the other room. “What was Kielao talking about Jumarth?” He asked his bronze when he walked through the door. Jumarth warbled and said, I have no idea H’lian but I do wish to enter a flight soon. H’lian nodded and said, “Well maybe that’s what he was talking about. Would you like to enter today?” Jumarth crooned in his happiness and said,I would love to who am I to chase? H’lian shrugged and said, “I don’t know but I’ll find someone for you. Hey, I’ve got to go to Dawn Sisters Weyr to see if there are any young men and women who are able to be Searched.” Jumarth sighed. We must Search again? H’lian we Searched all day yesterday. Didn’t we find enough? H’lian shook his head. “You don’t just Search for the clutch Jumarth. You also Search for the later ones. V’ran passed the job to us so me must do as he did.” Jumarth warbled and said, Well shall we go then? H’lian nodded and went to get his riding jacket.
When Jumarth and H’lian came out of between Dawn Sisters Weyr the watchdragon greeted them warmly. Jumarth returned the bugled and began his descent into the Weyrbowl. The moment he landed there was a crowd around them. We have to Search through all of these people? Jumarth asked. H’lian nodded. “Yes Jumarth and it’s not as hard as it looks. You should know that by now. It’s not like you are new to Searching. V’ran took us many times when he went.” Jumarth sighed and looked around the crowd. He stopped when he saw a young boy, off by himself. I believe that boy there would make a good candidate. Jumarth said as H’lian dismounted. “Found one already? Well keep looking, there might be one that is a better choice.” Jumarth crooned and continued to scan the crowd as H’lian went to the weyrleader’s quarters. He knocked and when the door opened he said, “Good morning weyrleader. I’m sorry to disturb you but my dragon Jumarth and I are on Search and I just wanted to let you know that we were here.” The weyrleader nodded and said, “Ah good. I was wondering when Tiynarea would send someone. May your Search be fruitful.” H’lian thanked him and then walked back to his dragon. “Alright that’s settled. Found anyone else?” Jumarth looked towards the middle of the crowd and said, Yes that girl there in the red dress. I think she will do. H’lian followed his dragon’s gaze and then asked, “So you’ve found two?” Jumarth nodded and said, There really isn’t anyone else. H’lian nodded and walked towards the girl.
H’lian led the girl back to Jumarth when he had talked to her and then said, “Alright we’re almost ready to go. I just have to do something really quick.” The girl nodded and looked up to Jumarth, smiled broadly. H’lian patted his bronze’s leg and then walked towards the message board that was posted on the far wall. He flipped through some sheets of hide and eventually found the mating flight board. There’s a queen by the name of Valorith that is rising. Would you like to enter her flight? H’lian asked. There was a moment of silence and then Jumarth said, Yes that is all right with me. Will we have to stay here until the flight? he asked. H’lian shrugged as he wrote his dragon’s name into an empty spot. I don’t know. We may be able to stay at Tiynarea until there is about two weeks till the rising date. Or we could stay, whichever you would prefer.I do not mind but I think I would like to stay here so that I will get to know everyone before the flight takes place. H’lian nodded and put the sheets back to the order they were in before. He walked back to Jumarth and said, “Ok you’re ready then?” The bronze nodded and kneeled down so that his rider could mount, helping the girl to his back, followed by the young man, who Jumarth had talked to while H’lian was signing him up for the flight. As they took off Jumarth asked, So you think I will have a good chance in that flight? H’lian sighed. “Don’t you think so?” Yes I suppose. It’s just that I am worried that she will choose someone else over me. H’lian shrugged. “If she doesn’t choose you then she won’t know what she’ll be missing later. I mean, judging by your size and stamina, your clutch would be large, and would probably have a gold egg.” Jumarth warbled and said, I like the idea of that H’lian, he said as he gained some altitude. H’lian patted his caramel colored neck and said, “Good, now let’s go home and drop these candidates off.”
