Search Story ![]() Jarellin was sitting on the east dock, lazily casting his line into the water. There hadn't been a bite all day, which meant his mother would accuse him of not trying hard enough, again. Jarellin sighed as he ran his line back in. "Oh well I'll just buy a live one from the market. She'll never know the difference," he said as he got up. "I think she would Jel," a voice said, using a nickname that only one person uses. "Katrine, I thought you were going to Fort Weyr to help your dad with the dragon healing today," he said as he turned around to face his friend. "Yea we already did. I had the dragonrider drop me off over in that field so I could come talk to you," she said as she picked up his tackle box for him. "You know what I heard at Fort Weyr while I was there?" Jarellin shrugged his shoulders. "I heard that dragons from Falas Weyr are coming to this area to Search!" Jarellin didn't know why she was so excited. "But you don't want to be a dragonrider," he said in confusion. "I'm not happy for me you wherry brain! I'm happy for you! It's what you've always wanted and now they're coming and now's your chance!" The two walked into town and stopped at the fountain. "I need to stop at the fish market," Jarellin told her while they took a drink. "Yeah I know. I just hope you pick one that can actually be found in this area this time," she said. referring to the time when he didn't catch anything and then went to the market and bought a tropical fish, which was only found in the area around Cove Hold. "Yeah yeah yeah. I don't think I'll be that stupid this time Kat. I'll just grab something like a coastal bass or something." Katrine nodded and they walked to the fish market. As they walked into the market the stong smells of dead fish met their nostrils. They were both used to it though, being from a fishing hold, and headed right for the bass stand. "What will 'ya have?" The fish salesman asked them. "Just one coastal bass please," Jarellin replied. "'Aight, be right back," he said as he walked to the back. He returned moments later with a large bass. Katrine took one look at it and started laughing. "Your mom is never going to belive you caught that Jel." Jarellin smiled. "Yeah I think you're right. Do you have anything a little smaller? Like this big?" He asked as he parted his hands by about a foot and a half. "Aye, that we do." With the the fish-salesman went to the back again. When he returned he brought a bass about two feet long. "Ok Jel I think she'll belive that one." Jarellin nodded and handed the fish-salesman the money for the fish. "Ok lets go," Katrine said. "No wait one sec," Jarellin said as he put the fish on the end of his hook. "Mom knows that I never take my fish off the line when I catch something bigger then a foot." When the two "fishermen" walked into the house Jarellin's mother stopped them at the door. Jarellin feared the worst. "Where have you been? I told you to be home at three o'clock. You've had them waiting for almost forty-five minutes!" Jarellin looked to Katrine, who shook her head. "Mom, who?" He asked. His mom sighed. "Who? The dragonriders you wherry! Here I'll take that fish, you two go into the other room and talk to them while I cook this thing." Jarellin and Katrine walked into the room and saw two dragonriders standing by the window, talking in hushed tones. When they noticed that Jarellin and Katrine had walked in they turned to greet them. "Hello I'm Serzona and this is P'mir. Our dragons seem to think that one of you, or both would make good candidates. Would either of you be interested?" Jarellin looked at Katrine. "He is," she said. "I don't really want to. However, I wouldn't mind going with him. My father is a dragonhealer so I could be of some help I suppose." The dragonriders smiled. "Well then thats good. What are your names?" Jarellin spoke up this time. "I'm Jarellin and this is Katrine." The dragonriders led Jarellin and Katrine out of the house and to their waiting lifemates, not far off. There were already two other people upon one dragon, a green. When they reached the green the dragonrider stopped. "This is Aphorath. The ride to Falas should be smooth. I'm just going to warm you know though that we are going to go between." She then helped Jarellin and then Katrine to her dragon's back and strapped them in. The searchrider then strapped herself in and tapped her green lightly on the neck. Jerallin's neck snapped back as the dragon took off towards Falas Weyr. ![]() | Journal | Search | Hatching Story | Stats | |
