Jr. Fledgling

That’s not very nice Ave, Myzineuth told the bronze flitter. He chirped in response and the cream walked from the room, leaving him alone. Salvari, Ave is dive bombing me again, she whined. Salvari rolled her eyes and said, “Come here.” Myzineuth did as she was told and Salvari rubbed the fledgling’s eyeridges. “That feels wonderful Salvari,” she said. Salvari continued to rub them until Ave flew in and landed lightly on his owner’s shoulder. Myzineuth hissed and backed away from the flitter, and her rider. “Oh it’s alright Myzin! He’s not going to hurt you.” The cream hesitated for a moment and then walked back towards Salvari again, eye on the bronze. “Ave, be nice,” Salvari said as Myzineuth sat down by the chair again. He was about to start chattering at her but Salvari placed a hand around his snout and he sighed, knowing he lost the battle.

The three sat together until there was a knock on the door. Ave looked up immediately and Salvari grabbed his tail, telling him not to go after whoever was at the door. She stood up and walked towards the door. “Hold on I’m coming,” she said as they knocked again. She opened the door slowly and met a young man, probably about the age of seventeen. “Can I help you?” She asked him. He nodded, flipped through some papers and said, “Yes I believe you can, well I know you can. Salvari correct?” She nodded and he continued, “Alright, well I’ve got to get your jacket size so the seamstress can make it. She’s working on a bunch this sevenday and your name is on the list. Do you need a small or a medium?” Salvari scratched her head and said, “Uh, can I get back to you on that?” the man shook his head. “No I’m afraid not. She needs it today. I suggest getting a medium if you think you’re going to grow still but otherwise I’d get a small.” She nodded and said, “Ok, well I guess I’ll have to go with a small.” The man nodded, wrote her request down and bent his head in good bye. She did the same and then shut the door, returning to her chair and her dragon.

“Is there a reason for getting your jacket now Salvari? You are not to ride for another year anyway.” Salvari shrugged and said, “No I won’t be riding until about a year and a half later, you’ll be flying within a year though.” Myzineuth looked up and asked, “Your first ride will not be with me?” Salvari shook her head. “No, you’ll be flying but I will not join you until they feel that you’ve gotten the hang of everything. They do it this way for safety reasons.” The cream sighed and Salvari reached over to her, rubbing her eyebrows in comfort. “You mean you are to ride another dragon while I learn?” Salvari nodded. Myzineuth snorted. “Well that isn’t fair. You are my rider, you should only ride me. I have not bonded to you so that you can ride another,”she complained. The creamrider smiled and then said, “I’m sorry dear, but I didn’t make the rules, and besides, just because I am riding a different dragon does not mean I am leaving you. I shall always be yours.”
