Candidate
Varelli slid down from Rweneth’s neck and thanked J’keti for bringing her to the Weyr. “Oh no problem. It is my job anyway. I wish I could stay to chat but I’ve got to get a few more candidates before this clutch hardens too much.” Varelli nodded and waved as she walked quickly towards the Weyr, Cielo on her shoulder and Rame flying in lazy circles around her head.
When she got into the Weyr she stopped, taking in the things that surrounded her. Cielo warbled and looked towards one of the many hallways. “That one?” She asked. Cielo warbled again and then flew ahead of her slowly. She walked down the hall and then stopped when she reached a large door. She opened it slowly and was blasted with warm air. Walking through the doorway she found herself on the sands of the Weyr. A green dragon was curled up near the far end and there was a small table near the door she had just walked through. Cielo flew to the table and landed, looking towards his owner.
Varelli walked over and pushed Cielo away gently, looking at the sheet of hide that he was sitting on. “Well good job Cielo,” she said when she realized that it was the candidate board for the green’s clutch. She wrote her name in one of the empty spots and then scooped him up, turning around and nearly running into a young man.
"Oh I’m sorry
I didn’t realize you were there,” she said.
“Don’t worry about it. I’m Delren,” he said as he put his hand out. She put her hand in his and Rame hissed.
“Oh stop it Rame,” she said. “Sorry ‘bout that he’s a little protective. I’m Varelli.”
“You’ve applied for Karienath’s clutch I’m guessing?” Delren asked as he wrote his own name in a slot. “A good choice. I hear there are supposed to be at least one white that will hatch.”
Varelli smiled. “Really? That would be a nice color to Impress, though I’m not saying that a green wouldn’t be just as good.”
Delren laughed. “I would have preferred a bronze for myself but since Karienath was caught by a blue there’s no chance of a bronze in the clutch so I’ll be happy with a blue or brown. Though I doubt there will be any browns either.”
“You never know,” Varelli said. “How long do you think it will be until the eggs hatch?”
“I’ve heard that there is a chance they could hatch today, which could happen but I have a feeling that it will hatch in about a week.”
Varelli nodded and said, “Well I’ve got to get going. I have to get my weyr still.” Delren smiled and waved slightly as she turned to go.
