Tony made
his start in Genesis in 67's. He was attending a English
public school Charterhouse, by Godalming in the southeast of
England. Tony was very intimidated by the school. He met a
boy with the same feelings, and together they found shelter
and friendship at a piano. They used to race for the piano,
after their lessons were over, but usually Tony played it
while Peter Gabriel sang.
Tony’s
first non-Genesis outing was the music for the film
‘The Shout’, co-written with Mike Rutherford and
the first production of Jeremy Thomas, who later went on to
produce ‘The Last Emperor’. His recorded solo
career began with the concept album ‘A Curious
Feeling’ (1979) with Kim Beacon on vocals. He then
released the movie soundtrack ‘The Wicked Lady’
(1983), followed closely by ‘The Fugitive’ (1983)
in which Tony handled all the vocals himself. His next album
was ‘Soundtracks’ (1986), a collection of
Tony’s music from the films ‘Quicksilver’ and
‘Lorca And The Outlaws’, featuring collaborations
with Fish, Toyah and Jim Diamond.
Tony next
used the band name ‘Bankstatement’ (1989) for an
album with the same title. It featured two singers Jayney
Klimek and Alistair Gordon, as well as Tony handling one
track himself. 1991 saw the release of ‘Still’,
under Tony’s name, featuring Tony, Fish, Jayney Klimek,
Nik Kershaw and Andy Taylor on Vocals. He returned to using
a band title for his last outing ‘Strictly
Inc.’(1995), which he recorded with Wang Chung member
Jack Hues.
