Jitsu FAQWhat is Jitsu?Jitsu is a modern form of Jiu Jitsu, the martial art practiced by the Samurai some 2,000 years ago in Japan. Some call Jiu Jitsu 'the grandfather of Japanese martial arts', because its principles are at the foundation of numerous other styles, Aikido and Judo among them. Jitsu is largely a grappling art, that is to say, a close-quarters style. We do quite a bit of vital-point striking, joint-locking and restraining, and, of course, throwing. Part of the philosophy underlying Jitsu is that you can overcome violence by seeming to yield to it, by moving with an attack and unbalancing your attacker. Because this sort of thing requires considerably more skill than strength, men and women of any size can become very good at it. However, if you really want to understand what Jitsu is, you should try it. |
