Jennifer Wilkinson, after working as a Medical Technologist and obtaining the National Diploma in Medical Technology, studied philosophy at the University of South Africa where she obtained her BA and BA (Hons) degrees and at the University of the Witwatersrand (MA degree). In 1992 she completed her D. Litt et Phil at the University of South Africa with a thesis entitled Emotion and fiction. Her main interests in academic philosophy are aesthetics and philosophy of mind. She has published widely in these and other fields including African Philosophy.In 1999 she retired as Head of the Philosophy Department at the University of South Africa. In her nearly twenty years at the university she served on many of the universitys committees such as Faculty Management, the Broad Transformation Forum, Councils Advisory Committee on Equity and Excellence and the Institute for Gender studies. For three years she was also co-ordinator of the Centre for Womens Studies and in that capacity was actively involved in the Womens National Coalition and the drafting of the Charter for Womens Effective Equality in the early nineties. She currently works as a Philosophy Consultant giving workshops and presentations on areas such as worldviews, dilemmas, affirmative action, gender and ethics to a variety of business and other organizations as well as lecturing part-time. She has furthered this interest by publishing several articles in business and other non-academic journals. She has also given a number of radio interviews mainly on gender related issues and has appeared on television to discuss sexual harassment and women in the workplace. A member of the Philosophical Society of Southern Africa where she was vice chair for several years until her retirement, she serves on the editorial board of the South African Journal of Philosophy. She is also a member of the International Association of Aesthetics, the South African Association of Artists and Art Historians, the Business Womens Association and is presently vice chair of the Southern African Philosopher Consultants Association. In her spare time she enjoys reading, movies and walking and is an avid traveler having visited many different countries. She is also a keen ballet fan and being part of a sporting family, takes a special interest in rowing and cricket.
