08 July.  The coach trip to Hathersage went extremely well.  44 members enjoyed the day.  Geoff led an 8 mile linear walk and Ted led a 10 mile circular one.  We all went onto Stanage Edge and enjoyed tremendous views.  Here are a few photos.

27 June.   13 people walked from Grimsby to Louth on The Silver Lincs Way, setting off on a misty morning.  It was very warm and humid and many were grateful to Maureen who turned up at Ludborough Vale with supplies of water.  The day brightened up and it became very hot but everyone arrived in Louth in good spirits!

In The Lincolnshire Rambler there is a description of a walk in the Stamford area.  Unfortunately Geoff had been given some incorrect information and it has been necessary to rewrite this walk.  You can download the revised route from http://www.walk-west.co.uk/stamfordwalk.html

03 December.   The Wednesday walkers Christmas Lunch once again was held at Louth Golf Club.  61 folk enjoyed this meal on an icy day.

14 September.  This year’s coach trip to Clumber Park was well supported.  Members of The Robin Hood Way Association kindly led walks for us and this was greatly appreciated.

07 June.

At 08-00 on a really damp morning no less than 22 of us set off from Scartho, on the edge of Grimsby, to walk the 25 mile Silver Lincs Way.  The photo shows us having a drink stop by Target Plantation, after walking about 8 miles.

At Wyham some had planned to detour to Ludborough to catch the bus, but 16 of us continued, some of us slowing down a bit, as we progressed.

We walked into Louth with the sun finally shining on us and we all made it to Louth Church by 17-40

04 June.  The coach trip to Ilkley was most successful.  Ted Johnson and Chris Pankhurst led walks of 10 and 7 miles respectively and some visited Harewood House while others spent the day in Ilkley.  The photos below were taken on the 10 mile walk.

16 February.  The Saturday walk from Biscathorpe was a highlight of the year so far.  The sun was shining and 26 people enjoyed a beautiful walk, admiring the snowdrops and aconites at Benniworth Haven and then visiting the tiny Church at Gayton le Wold on the occasion of their Snowdrop Flower Festival.  Tea and home made cakes were served, the Church was beautifully decorated, and plants and various other items were on sale. This certainly rounded off the day admirably.

06 June.  Once again we were blessed with a lovely day for our Wednesday coach trip.  44 of us set off for Baslow.  A group of 20 got off the coach at Longshaw and, with Ted Johnson leading, walked through the estate and then to Froggatt, Curbar and Baslow edges before descending to Baslow, where there was time for a cuppa before exploring Chatsworth Park.  15 set off on an 11 mile circular walk from Baslow – led by Dave Light.  The rest of the party did their own thing and spent time enjoying the Park and the Gardens at Chatsworth.  Below are a few photos from the walk along the edges and from the grounds of Chatsworth.

19 May – 03 June.  The third Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival has been a great success.  Our group was involved in organizing eight of the walks.

15 – 22 May.  A group of 18 have been on a very successful holiday to Girona.  We flew Ryanair and Costa Brava Rambles organised our transport and accommodation in Girona.  They gave us a half day tour of the city and three days guided walking.  The city was particularly attractive as it was The Time of Flowers in Girona and the walking was excellent.  The scenery was stunning and the hillsides were covered with wild flowers.  As well as the walking there was the opportunity to visit the Dali Museum in Figueras and spend a day in Barcelona.  To read more about our holiday click here.  Please note that following this link takes you off the Grimsby/Louth RA website.  Use the back button on your browser to return.

02 March.  The Silver Lincs Way leaflets have been so successful that we had almost run out of them in less than two years.  However a second reprint of both leaflets in February 2007 has been possible thanks to the Lincolnshire Wolds Sustainable Development Fund.

2006.

06 December.  59 of us sat down for a festive meal at The Waggon and Horses in South Reston.  Before the meal some members had enjoyed a short walk led by Anne Murphy.

24 October.  We had been approached by N E Lincs Council and asked if we would lead a taster walk for older people as part of their October themed month for older people.  Ted Johnson led a 5 mile walk from Bradley Woods on a glorious morning and seven people turned out.  We had to negotiate a ploughed field but everyone was very good about it and we were delighted that two of those on the walk turned up for our Wednesday walk the next day.

20 October.  A series of walk leaflets providing six walks based on the Connect 3 bus route from Lincoln to Grimsby was launched.  Our group had been involved in planning three of the walks at our end of the route.  Chris and Francis Pankhurst represented our group at the launch and Chris has sent the photo below which shows Gillian Merron, the MP for Lincoln and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, responsible for Transport, cutting the ribbon.

The leaflets are in tourist information centres and libraries.

10 September.  Our Sunday coach trip to Haworth was a great success.  Dave Light, Roy Thomas and Chris Pankhurst led the walks of 11, 9, and 5 miles respectively.  It was a gorgeous day.  Judy Fitch kindly supplied the photos below.

11 June.  Trinity Sunday.   It was good to see The Old Ramblers’ church at Walesby full for this annual service.  Anne Murphy led a 9½ mile walk for our group and although there were just 9 of us it was a super day.  We arrived at the Church to hear the bells ringing, and in good time for the lovely service, conducted by the Rev John Carr.  It concluded with the planting by Janet Collier of an oak sapling, given by Lincolnshire RA, in memory of Brett.   Thank you Anne and all those members of our group, walkers and non-walkers who turned out.

07 June.  Once again we’ve had a lovely, sunny day for our Wednesday coach trip.  This year we visited Castleton.  Ted Johnson led one of the walks to Hope, climbing Lose Hill and walking along the Great Ridge to Mam Tor, returning via Cave Dale.  Anne Murphy was the other leader and her walk went over Rushup Edge and into Edale, returning via Hollins Cross.  The picture below shows The Great Ridge….

…and here’s the view into Edale and the descent of Cave Dale.

29 April.  To mark the first anniversary of the launch of The Silver Lincs Way, eighteen folk set off from Scartho at 08-00 on this bright, clear morning.  At Ludborough Vale, after fourteen miles, two very reasonably decided that they had enjoyed their walk but enough was enough, but all the rest carried on to arrive at St James’ Church in Louth at 17-15.  Ten of us had never attempted anything like this distance before so we all felt very elated.

The Spring Newsletter together with the latest edition of The Lincolnshire Rambler is on its way to members
