Flying above the two motorcycles I had a clear view ahead and below me.
It was only a short time after we started when for some reason there was a pop sound, and Dammers' bike veered off into a guardrail, spilling both riders into the ground. Taping my com-badge with my beak I called down to them. I had commed them twice they did not answer. I could see Lynx and Dammers moving around ok, and Brundle was there unharmed. I am sure, well actually I hope they can handle whatever needs to be done. Looks like their bike is damaged. May be faster just to grab another one. "Chortle" yea, might as well add motor thief to my record, we won't be staying here long, and it is to save the Captain.
I spotted another motor bike up ahead, a really nice one, two seater, red and crome, and decided to borrow it to replace the damaged one.
When I landed next to the bike and grabbed the keys, there was a human child, a female, that ran up to me, grabbed my leg and started babbling about "Big bird, and where was Ernie and Bert?" Cute little mammal would have loved to play with her but this was not the time. I managed to distract her and peel her off my leg and steal away with the bike but not before a few sightseers noticed me.
When I got back, Dammers was not moving, and Lynx was crushing and hovering over the poor human, it's a wonder he could breath at all. She was very concerned about him not responding. Lynx asked me to take charge of Dammers weaponry. So I picked up the hodgepodge of weapons he had.
I fiddled with an ancient part of his phaser/rifle assembly, and was rewarded with a loud Ka-Boom, at least now that I know how it works, I'll keep my ears folded if I have to fire the thing again. It was a little frightening.
He also had the phaser set on level 14, looking around he had disintegrated a large part of the guardrail, some trees, the top of a road sign and other things around us. Readjusting the phaser to 1 for stun, then back to 2 to put anything to sleep for a few hours should it jump out on us.
Brundle was standing a short distance away. He was carrying on a normal conversation with the missing away team, asking something about the crew member Lott, what 'phase' he or she was in, and finding out it was still a 'female phase' asked the crew member if they would tell Lott that he was missing her.
Awk! We have a crewmember down and he is swooning and wants to know if a female is missing him…why not just break out in a mating dance and bring tokens to her while he was at it?
I commed the away team, thank the great sun that Tarra has honor about her. She understood the message I gave her that we have a crewmember down and needed a medical kit. Seems she took charge of the van and, as they say, put the petal to the metal. But was still slow.
Dammers woke for a moment, babbled something, then he went out again. This is where I learned he had taken a full hypo of Prozac 22 in the leg. Was the human dying? I gave the heavy weapon to Lynx, scooped up Dammers' limp body and took to the sky in hopes to speed up the meeting with the van.
When I saw it I dove for the roof of the van, it swerved and hit the guardrail, I tried again and again it sent a shower of sparks up from the length of guardrail. The van finally came to a stop, surprisingly the motor bike with Lynx and Brundle arrived before I could land?
Regardless, I set Dammers on the ground near the van for medical treatment. As the cats attended to the human I dug around in the van looking for the tricorder. Tarra found it and handed it over to me.
They really need to clean out that rolling box, it was smelling and.. yeck! There was a length of sticky paper on my talon that would not let go easily.
I was planning to rig my combadge, the tricorder and the boaster single in attempt to reach Lee.
Lee had contacted the ship somehow, and the messages were relayed back to us. I over heard Brundle talking to Lee. I was going to use my skills to boost the com badge signal to contact Lee. At least that saved some time.
Using the tricorder I located the signal of Lee's badge and it was coming from Vegas. He ordered the non-human crew to keep a low profile, as we made a likely target.
Dammers was coming around, that is if Lynx doesn't overdose the human and kill him by accident, I'm no medical officer, I watched as she was putting more doses of adrenaline into him, human bodies aren't as large and durable as a kzin. This is cause for alarm, however no damage seems to be done in access to Dammers, he is coming around. Must--trust--cat--doctor.
The two female cats cuddled Dammers protectively, and were chatting away in the spitting and hissing catfight sound of Kzin' root language. I could only imagine what Dammers was dreaming of at that moment.
We were on our way again, I had to rip the back seats out of the van to fit comfortable in the back. At least it gives me a chance to rest my wings.
Something more disturbing was going on.
The one under arrest, Brundle, was talking to Tarra about mutiny against Captain M'Rander. This bares watching to see which way it goes when we are back onboard.
I think I will file a transfer to another ship, even a garbage scull to get away from this chaos as soon as I am aboard. That is if I am given the time before being sent down on an away team again…or worst.
I do not want to be mixed up in a mutiny against a Federation Star Captain. I am not sure if reporting this infraction would be in my best interest for now.
"Chortle" maybe I should go AWOL and just stay here on this earth and work as a translator for those men in black suits. At least they seem to know what they are doing, and are successful at it, too successful. They shot at me for no reason, they kidnapped the captain and fled like hyenas with a juicy gnarled bone. That fact is what worries me. Lee's last Com communication was cut short and someone's voice, human I think, was in the background.
I feel the dark hot smoke stir in me. The ancient blood of warriors flows strongly through my veins. I feel it singing so sweetly to me, "come sister, come join in the warm soothing blood bath. Relish in the satisfying feel of their flesh parting like soft butter beneath your talons. You lust for it. You know you want too."
No… ….be quite you.
Peace is the current beneath my wings, it lifts me up to glide, and it gives me comfort on the long journey.
