How to get rid of AIM profile stealing program:

Made this page because the instructions don't fit in my aim profile anymore.

The program that is causing the aim profile overwriter is called b.exe. Everytime you try to change your profile, the link just keeps coming back... This page is a list of instructions on how to remove it (below).

Looks something like:

How to get rid of it (4 parts):

1 End the program's process

  1. Run task manager
    1. Win XP: ctrl+alt+del
    2. Win 2k: ctrl+alt+del, click task manager
    3. Win 98: ctrl+alt+del (window should popup)
  2. Win XP/2k: Click processes tab
  3. Find "b" or "b.exe" and click (highlight) it.
  4. Click "End process" or "End task"

2 Remove program's registry key

  1. Run regedit
  2. click start
  3. click run
  4. type: regedit
  5. click ok
  6. A program should start with folders on the left
  7. Using the folders on the left, open the following chain of folders:
  8. My Computer \ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHIN \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run
  9. Some stuff should appear on the right (red icons)
  10. Find "Antivirus" under the name column and "C:\WINDOWS\b.exe" under the data column
  11. Click it and hit the delete key

3 Delete the program file

  1. Go to "My Computer"
  2. Open your C:\ drive
  3. open the "Windows" folder
  4. if it has some sort of warning, just click "show all files" anyway
  5. Find the file "b.exe"
  6. delete it
  7. close my computer
  8. delete b.exe from your recycle bin

4 Change your AIM profile

  1. Delete the current stuff in your aim profile (using aim) and put whatever you want
  2. Sign off and back on with aim
