ISSRL - Le Mans - Round 22
Round 22 of the ISSRL Downunder League kicked off at long & very fast Le Mans Raceway. Fast man in Qualifying was once again Daniel Wood with a quick 3.52.311 second lap. On Grid two we saw TWM's Shane Challis followed by David Turnbull on three. Rounding out the top four qualifiers was Warwick Browne. TWM's other drivers raced off grid eight (Wayne Glanville) & grid fourteen (Jason Dellaway).
Here we see TWM's Shane Challis overshoot the entry into Turn One. After getting the drop on Daniel Wood when the green flag dropped, Shane was carrying far too much speed resulting in this 'near miss'. Pictured, we see Daniel Wood about to recapture the lead followed by the Australians, Warwick Browne & Brett Stone. Also in shot, we see the #702 Corvette of the current series leader, David Turnbull. of the green it was clear that
In this shot we have Brett Stone getting it all wrong early on in the piece. This proved to be a costly mistake time-wise but worse was to come.............
When the leading bunch pitted on Lap five, Brett decided that he would chance his arm and go another lap. Eight miles is a long way to drive when your spotter tells you that you are gonna need fuel ASAP. Brett had no option but to limp/crawl back to pitlane which effectively ended any real chance of a top four finish. I felt nothing but sympathy when I went hurtling past the fuel starved GT40 only a minute after making my pitstop. Bad luck Brett, I'm sure a valuable lesson has been learnt.
At the end of the day it was a good showing by Team Wasp Motorsports. Our three representatives done us proud with the following results:

2nd.....Shane Challis
8th.....Wayne Glanville
12th.....Jason Dellaway

Great work & well done guys. I'll see you all on the track for Round 23 at Kyalami.

Cheers,

The second major incident struck on Lap three by none other than series Leader David Turnbull.
This can only be described as an unlucky move by David who I'm sure had Daniel Wood in his sights (top left corner). After pulling off a superb drafting manoevre on Shane Challis on the previous lap, Davids race & the Championship lead were lost during this small lapse of concentration.
Once again (Anyone getting tired of hearing this?), Daniel Wood from Torbay in Auckland took the Chequered flag ahead of his nearest competitor, TWM's Shane Challis (+18 seconds). Third place went to David Turnbull (+58 seconds), with Australian Warwick Browne rounding out the top four (+59.8 seconds). Great stuff Dan.
Here we see TWM's Wayne Glanville about to mix it up with the recovering David Turnbull. Wayne ran a mixed race but still managed to place inside the top ten. Le Mans was certainly a testing track for most people with everyone having at least one 'hairy' moment during theie race.

In this shot we see Jason Dellaway who will be the first to admit that he had a tough night at the office. After sixteen gruelling laps, he finished in  12th positiion. As mentioned earlier, the sheer length of this track and its tricky tighter sections, certainly didn't help any.
