January 2004 |
Week 1 - Peyton is born on January 1, 2004 after 37 hours of delivery! Contractions started at 1:30 a.m. on December 31st and we finally decide to head up to the hospital at about 1:30 p.m. On the way to the car, my water broke...great timing!!! Mom & I call Leif at work and tell him that we are definitely on our way, and we arrive (some of us soaking wet!) at Labor & Delivery about 2:30 p.m. We settle in quickly to our room and wait. And wait and wait and wait! Labor progresses VERY slowly! At midnight we groggily celebrate New Years & hope that the baby will come soon. Around 8:00 a.m. baby's heartbeat starts to drop with each contraction. We discuss the possibility of a c-section. Just to be on the safe side, I accept an epidural. After the epidural, I manage to relax & sleep for about 3 hours which helps get things moving. By 1:00 p.m. I start pushing & Peyton was delivered at 2:31 p.m. Leif, Peyton, and I stayed in the hospital for 2 days & came home on Saturday afternoon. Grandma Diana stayed with us for a week, helping us adjust to parenting life, and Grandpa Mike and Uncle Branden came to pick her up the Wednesday after Peyton was born. They stayed for a couple of days & bought us all sorts of useful stuff...diapers, wipes, etc! |
Week 2 - We are all slowly adjusting to each other. Peyton is a great baby! Very alert & good-natured. Although now that Grandma Diana is gone, we're alone with this tiny creature! It's exciting & scary at the same time. Are we going to be competent parents? I hope so! We sit on the couch at night looking at this baby, completely in awe of him. On Saturday Peyton took his first bath in the big tub. Mommy & daddy joined him, and he LOVED it! I think it brought back memories of being in the womb...warm & wet. |
Week 3 - The highlight of this week is a visit from Grandpa & Grandma Cox. They arrived on Friday afternoon & stayed until Sunday afternoon. We had such a fun time playing with them, and it was SO nice to have help around the house from Grandma Carla. Peyton had his first skiing adventure this weekend...we went out to Mountain Dell and took a few laps around the x-country ski course that they have set up on the golf course. It was nice to get out of the cold & smog in Salt Lake and up into the fresh air and blue skies of the mountains. It lifted all of our spirits! |
Week 4 - Our first quiet week at home alone with Peyton. We are very slowly getting into a routine both during the day and at night. Leif and I are still quite sleep deprived, but we're at least getting used to it. We brought home the nice jog stroller that Grandma Cox bought for Peyton. We put him in it after we assembled it and had to laugh. He's still so tiny in it that it's like playing Where's Waldo, trying to find Peyton in the big stroller! Leif has a nasty cold this week & is sleeping downstairs, hoping not to spread his germs to the baby & I. The best part of the week though...Peyton is showing signs of smiling soon!!! We can make the corners of his mouth turn up by making silly faces at him. |
