BEGGARS:HELP THEM OR NOT?

Say, you are walking along a street one day. You are enjoying your walk on the street and breathing in the fresh air when suddenly someone calls you and say, 'Please help me. I've not been eating for days.' Let's say that someone is wearing torn and tattered clothes. Apparently, he/she looks pathetic, and his/her hair is uncombed. He/she looks unclean. Needless to say, he/she is called a begger. Most probably you will feel sorry for his condition and sympathize him/her. Besides that, your heart will prompt you to give him/her a small amount of money especially if you are an altruistic person. The next thing you will do is take out you purse/wallet/handbag and search for a coin. Wait a minute! Is that a wise thing to do?

To a handful of people, beggars are people whom we should sympathize and lend a helping hand to them because of their lack of money and destitution. But how far is this true? Now, are all beggars really beggars?

Do you know that some beggars are not beggars at all? Do you know that some beggars are not at all destitude? Do you know that some beggars are not homeless and poverty stricken? Some of the beggars are people like you and me who have enough finance, food and also have a home. Worse still, I heard a case of a rich man who camouflage himself into a beggar. Believe it or not, 'beggars' now have become a form of occupation.

Believe it or not, somewhere in my country, there's a man who is rich. Somehow, he pretends to become a beggar just for the sake of money. This shows that there are really a handful of false beggars in our world and this must be solved.

One reason why people now dare to pretend to be a beggar is certainly because most of the time, some of us give a small amount of money to beggars. The money the beggars collect will become more and more as more as time pass by. If a beggar continue this for days, he might be able to collect some money. Sometimes, the amount of money they collect may surpass our expectation. If this continues for months and years, most probably they will be able to collect a big amount of money. In this case, we can say that those people who pretend to become a beggar are attracted by this. To them, they think that if they become a beggar, they are able to collect some extra money and sometimes they will keep the money in the bank and the bank just give them interest. After that, their money accumulate.

After telling you this, do you still want to give some money to the beggars? Well, some I admit are really beggars but how are you going to differentiate a real beggar and not a real beggar? Those who don't have hands or limbs are most probably a beggar. Old people too may be a beggar. What happens if the have limbs, hands and they are young but they look dirty? I know that is certainly hard to differentiate them. So, the best is not to give any beggars any money. Don't judge these beggars through their looks. Looks can be deceiving sometimes. Even if it is a small amount, don't try to give them money. I am not asking you not to have sympathy towards the poor but for the sake of getting rid those false beggars, we have no choice but to do this.

Actually, the best thing to do if you come accross a beggar, just report to the authorities. That's the best thing. If that beggar you meet is a real beggar, then maybe the authorities can do something with him/her. If that is a false beggar, then the authorities can take action to punish him/her for doing such things.

To make this awareness, the government should try provide advice to the citizens so that they will be more wise as they meet any beggars on the road. The government can make this awareness thorugh the media mass, internet, and campaigns.

In the future, if you see any beggar, don not give him/her any money because sometimes he/she may be a false beggar. Remember, the best thing to do is to report this to the authorities. Lastly, I am not trying to ask you all to stop showing sympathy to the unfortunate people. I am just telling you this so as to reduce this problem wabout people pretending to become beggars when sometimes they are already rich.
