Mr. Ernie was having a terrible cough and he found difficulty in breathing. As time passed, his health deteriorated. So, he decided to consult a doctor to seek medical help. When the medical results came out, he was utterly shocked and lots of worries began to beset him when he finally found out that he was having lung cancer for around 2 months. His heart was filled with remorse simply because he smoked cigarette for 24 years already.
Well, this is just a story but it does not mean you will not get lung cancer when you smoke. However, it is not only because of health reasons that people should stop smoking. There are several other reasons which should interest smokers to read on this article.
Amoking is nowadays a common thing to everyone living in the world. Cigarettes are sold widely throughout the whole world. Movie stars in the big screen or in the screen of the televsion make people think that smoking is able to make one's lifestyle more stylish. Even youths are beginning to smoke probably because of peer pressure and influences from friends and the mass media. Is it worth while to do so or vice versa?
There is no doubt that smoking is hazardous, not only for the smokers but the passive ones too (those who never smoke). The reason is simply beacause smoking contains nicotine. Nicotine is a poisonous, oily substance which is derived from tobacco-leaves. Another detrimental substance in cigarettes is tar. These substances too can cause addiction to cigarettes especiall nicotine. Undoubtedly, the health of smokers and people around the smokers will deteriorate. Not only that, with the presence of the two substance mentioned earlier, they may shorten one's life. Consequences of inhaling the release of gases from cigarettes are bronchitis, sinus problem and lung cancer. Sometimes the effect will only take place ages later. So, do not expect an instant effect. Still undaunted? Maybe you should also know that your lungs will have black spots developing as time goes by if you constantly inhale the gases of cigarettes. Knowing this, do you still dare to smoke?
Besides that point, buying cigarettes are waste of money. A packet of cigarettes may cost as much as US$1. Just imagine buying 2-3 packets per day. Hence, for each it may cost around US$ 2-3 per day. Multiply it with 30. It will be US$ 60-90. For some people this amount of money is no big deal but why not save this amount of money for something better? With that money, one can spend a dinner for a family of 3-4. Anyway, are cigarettes worth while? Do they have any medicinal value? Can cigarettes make you rich? Certainly not at all! That's why it is important to think twice before you go to a shop to buy some packets of cigarettes.
When one smoke, he or she is bound to get addicted to smoking cigarettes. What happens if he or she suddenly realizes that doing so is simply hazardous? Will he or she be able to stop? Yes, if he or she has a strong determination but what happens if he or she don't and forces himself to stop smoking? Certainly the urge will be there to smoke and if he compells him/herself to stop smoking abruptly, he or she might get high blood pressure or something else might emerge as a consequence of addiction of cigarettes. Therefore we can jump to conclusion that if one smokes, to stop smoking is not easy and it must be done slowly if one wants to stop smoking otherwise there will be unwanted effects. If you're a smoker and you are planning to stop smoking, don't take the risk by abruptly abstain from cigarette smoking. Now there are products or programmes which can help you to stop smoking. I would advise you to indulge on that kind of programme if you really want to stop smoking.
Smoking too bring a wrong impression to youths around the world. To them, they might think that smoking makes them look stylish and respected by friends. For the boys, they think smoking is one thing which can make a man out of a person. But let me tell you the truth. It is pointless when your health will deteriorate.
So how to stop smoking? How to ensure that your children will not smoke at all in the future?
As aforesaid, one of the ways to cease smoking is to participate in a kind of programme. You can get that kind of programme by consulting a doctor and occasionally you will come across an advertisement in the mass media that encourages you to buy something which gives you a chance to participate in the 'Stop Smoking' programme. Usually, these types of programmes gradually ask you to reduce the number of cigarettes to smoke per day and as time unfolds, you will soon find yourself not smoking at all. If you really want to stop smoking, you should do so. Besides that a strong determination to stop smoking is indispensable. Sometimes you do not need to waste money to participate in the programmes mentioned just now but instead, you can have an exceptionally very strong determination to stop smoking. But actually this is not really advisable. It may cause some disturbance in your health.
To deter the rising number of smokers, youths and children must be told by parents about the dangers of smoking. In doing so, the number of smokers in the world might not escalate much anymore. Campaigns too should be launched to bring awareness on smoking. This is very effective, trust me. Other than that, teachers too should play a role in teaching students in school about the dangers of smoking. The mass media also should play role to make sure the number of smokers will not rise.
Lastly, I would like to say: Please take care of your health and the health of your loved ones. Smoking is really dangerous. There is no doubt about it.
