Whenever you get angry, upset, or in an otherwise undesirable state
of being, recite this poem to yourself; I find that it helps.
Quid te exempta iuvat spinis de pluribus una?
Vivere si recte nescis, decede peritis.
Lusisti satis, edisti satis atque bibisti:
Tempus abire tibi est.
(How can it relieve you to pluck one thorn out of so many roses?
If you do not know how to live aright, make way for those who do.
You have played enough, have eaten and drunk enough.
It is time for you to leave the scene.)
It was written a few hundred years ago by a man named Horace (Q. Horatius
Flaccus), he was born in 65 BC, and wrote quite a few interesting poems of which
most people only remember the last line. His most famous -- which everyone knows
-- ends with 'Carpe Diem, quam minimum ccredula postero', which stresses the
importance to 'seize the day and trust tomorrow as little as you may', the one
above ends with 'tempus abire tibi est', which stresses the importance of taking
a break when you've had enough.
I do not know the title of this poem. If you do, please email it to me. Thanks.
